foobar not recognizing single digit track numbers

From brand new foobar user: I have a collection of .wav files on a pc machine. I am wanting to use foobar to convert these .wav files to mp3. When I drag the .wav files to foobar, only double digit track numbers (10 through nn) are recognized. Single digit track numbers (called # in windows 7) such as 1 though 9 are not recognized and come up blank in foobar track number column. Perhaps I have something set up incorrectly. Please advise. Thanks.

The wav files probably have messed up tags.

You should be able to load them all in to Foobar (in the correct order) and select all the files, right click, tagging, get tags from freedb.

If you plan on keeping the wav files, convert them to FLAC and tag.
