version 0.9 and dodgy mp3s

Been using version 0.9 for a few days now after switching from 0.8.3.  I have some mp3s with synch issues that are not playing – even though they played fine in the older version. They play for a few seconds then stop. The normal console message pops up and the player moves to the next track

Can anyone explain this? Is there some setting I have to change to make Foobar more tolerant of badly encoded files like 0.8.3 was? Or will I have to come up with another solution?

You will have to be more patient that this, otherwize you will only piss people off.
After skimming through preferences after an annoying feature I didn't find anything that lets you play broken files.
Replace it with a new copy.

have you tried the mp3 header fix (using the rebuild stream) on the dodgy mp3's? (make a backup of the mp3's first just incase)
Who are you and how did you get in here ?

This doesn't seem to be in0.9 (I couldn't find it).

I did try it in 0.8.3, and the files now play but seem to be a bit worse off with louder pops and squeaks etc.

Fyi here is the console message I'm getting in 0.9:
"Decoding failure at 0:01.973 (Unsupported format or corrupted file):..."
at which point playback stops.

And this is the one in 0.8.3:
"WARNING (foo_input_std) : mpeg stream error at 31764 bytes, attempting resync
INFO (foo_input_std) : mpeg stream resync successful"

0.8.3 keeps playing the file, however.

Does anyone know if 0.9 has been optimised to be less tolerant on broken files?

You should find it under Right click --> Utils.

File -> Preferences -> Display -> Context menu
Click right mouse button on "[group] Utils".
Choose Insert item -> Command...
There search "Utils/Fix MP3 header..."
Click OK, then Save all, then Close.
Now it's under Utils.

Just for you I tried it with some known problematic old MP3s I have and I still got the same old:
Code: [Select]
mpeg stream error at 2813082 bytes, attempting resync
mpeg stream resync successful
I've never run the header fix on these files.

Was this with version 0.9 or 0.8.3?

0.9.  In 0.8.3 there was actually more of a stutter during the sync errors than in 0.9 for these two particular files.
