Surround from movies with mp3 sound

I've been told (on this forum) that mp3 retains the Dolby ProLogic sound.
Here is my configuration
2.1 Creative Inspire T3000 connected to Center/LFE out (i usually use them for normal listening but for movies i connect them to this out to use the LFE channel)
2.0 speakers connected to front out
and another 2.0 speakers connected to the surround out.
That way i have a decent surround effect when watching movies with AC3 sound.
I know a full 5.1 or 7.1 system would be better but money is an issue at the moment.
I've heard the mp3 sound is supposed to be selected as Dolby ProLogic and it will be downmixed into the front out and the Hi-Fi would decode it and produce ProLogic.
Is it possible to have a surround on the described configuration above?
