(MPC) New replaygain calculation tool (Windows: 0.80a, Linux

Just saw this on Frank Klemm's site (http://www.uni-jena.de/~pfk/mpp/).

Windows binary:
http://www.uni-jena.de/~pfk/mpp/bin/replay...ndows-0.81a.zip

Linux binary:
http://www.uni-jena.de/~pfk/mpp/bin/replay...libc6-0.81a.zip

(Edit: When I originally posted this, there were different version numbers for Windows and Linux but this has suddenly changed.  I've updated the links here, accordingly.)

LATEST:   New replaygain calculation tool (0.81a)

Headroom can be displayed in dB instead of the maximum sample value
(--listdB, --listalldB, --autodB)
Some support into the direction "Auto Album Support" -- recognize albums in a larger list of files
(if audio files are named by a useful pattern:

album -- [no] artist -- title.mpc
artist -- album -- [no] title.mpc
artist/album -- [no] title.mpc
artist/album/[no] title.mpc
album -- no -- artist -- title.mpc
artist -- album -- no -- title.mpc
artist/album -- no -- title.mpc
artist/album/no -- title.mpc
more information in the next days . . .
Bugfix, sometimes the replaygain was wrongly written into the file (only Windows)
Display of album based values also in the --list and --auto mode
Display of maximum values at th end of all files in --list and --listall mode

I presume that if you run this new replaygain version on a set of files that were modified by an older version of replaygain, the old calculated data is simply overwritten?

Thanks for the heads up.

There's a new version up now (.81c) but, as Frank noted, the windows binaries are screwed up.  Can someone with the proper development environment possibly compile the source and post it, or perhaps point to where it can be found?

I send Frank Klemm an email about it and expect the binaries will soon be fixed.

Is there any update on "uncooked" replaygain binaries yet? I'm very eager to test this recursive replaygain, as it will save a heap of effort - set it and leave!

Yes, the new replaygain binaries are OK. Direct link: http://www.uni-jena.de/~pfk/mpp/bin/replay...ndows-0.81c.zip or if you also want the latest mppdec 0.99c and Winamp plugin 0.90e: http://www.uni-jena.de/~pfk/mpp/bin/mppdec-windows-0.99c.zip
For people who have no use for the encoding and decoding parts of MPC Batch Encoder, I made a frontend especially for replaygain. It's in alpha stage, so there can be bugs. Link: http://home.wanadoo.nl/~w.speek/download/83dB.zip

ReplayGain:

Does anybody know the difference between --auto & --autodB ?
And what's up with the new --smart option ?

In the zip file with the source i found some explanation how to use replaygain, but not the things i asked above (or i must overlooked it somehow).

Thanks.

The difference between --auto and autodB is only how the values are reported on screen (in decibels or in how are those high numbers called?). The numbers that are stored in the MPC files are the same. I don't know what the --smart option does.

Thanks Speek.

Now if Frank only had some extra time to make a little guide explaining all the switches.

Fantastic Speek. New replaygain 0.81c with your Batch Encoder 2.1.0 and switch  "--auto ." or "autodB ." or "listalldB .", etc, works great. It recurses through all subdirectories automatically.

I'm having trouble with your 83dB.exe. Error: "Component "SYSINFO.OCX" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

This is after installing vbrun60sp5.exe.

Any clues?

Yes, I use that ocx in the program. But I thought it would be available in every Windows version. Not! I've uploaded sysinfo.ocx with a installation note. I'm not sure if registering of sysinfo.ocx is necessary, so you could first try to just copy the file into your WindowsSystem dir.

Please let me know what Windows you're using and how it works out.

Speek,

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.

With the help of your link, and instructions, I have succeeded in getting 83dB.exe to work - thanx.

I have a little request to improve your frontend usability. Could you program your browsing dialog boxes to remember the last folder position? This would mean that when selecting a folder, you would not have to keep starting from C: or D: > directory > subdirectory, etc, etc.

Kind regards,
Ruse

When you use replaygain to recurse through subdirectories, it writes title based gain , but nor album based gain. Is this correct?

For example this is the output of a test:

Very strange. In another test it has calculated a gain value for one album, but not the other two...
