Which receiver to buy?

Hey guys, noobish here...shakey_snake, after reading the " Speakers are ALWAYS the weakest link" thread, I realize now(or so I hope), when I purchased my current receiver to replace the HTIB, maybe I should have started first with the, "weakest link".....Long story short, I purchased a PS3 for bluray playing, and I needed to take advantage of the surround sound from the BD...The HTIB had no optical in , hence my need for a new receiver.....Thing is , while it does seem to sound better and definitely louder, guess what I'm shopping/looking for now? Any inexpensive suggestions? or should I ask in the 'you need to spend $1000.00 or more to hear the difference' forum(s)? Sorry if I didn't post in the HW section, just thought I'd put in my 2cents worth...
