--vbr-new switch for LAME 3.98

I recently transcoded all my FLAC files to MP3 using foobar2000 0.9.6. I used the "-V2" setting, but I unchecked the " --vbr-new" setting because I though the new version of LAME uses it by default. Did I make a mistake here, or are my new MP3 files OK?

Edit: I did a few quick tests with both settings and they seem to produce the same bitrate. This means the "fast mode" in foobar for MP3 conversion is not necessary for the newer version of LAME, correct?

Correct, --vbr-new is default in v3.98, unchecking it does not activate old vbr model.
