Media Library ignores some tracks

Hi all!
I have a big problem with my Media Library, it skips somewhere around 800 out of my 5500 tracks. I noticed the problem when using a version from auugust or something, but I just updated to newest beta and it's still the same.

I don't think there is something wrong with the tracks since many of the missing tracks are individual files from individual albums. And also, the tracks are added, played and tagged without problem if I just drag them into a playlist.

Please help! It sucks to be missing 15% of my music collection

Are your files on a network drive?

Do any of your files have unicode filenames?

No, they're on an external drive.

Not as far as I can see. Here's two filenames, the first works, the second don't:

F:\Musik\All Musik\Street Dogs\State of Grace\07. Street Dogs - Two Angry Kids.mp3
F:\Musik\All Musik\Street Dogs\State of Grace\03. Street Dogs - Into The Valley.mp3

Are any of these files marked as system or hidden? You can check that in the files' properties in Windows Explorer.

No. They have identical attributes and they also have the same access rights.
I can pm you a non-working track if that will help identify the problem.

I've just confirmed that it's something with my current foobar2000 install. Media library successfully added all tracks from a new portable install of the newest beta.

Another thing I come to think about is that I got a crash when rescanning the library before switching to newest beta, is it possible my config.cfg is broken?

Anyways, hope there is a solution without having to redo all work with my current config. It would really suck. Edit: Meh, I did it.

Have you tried reloading tags from files? I had similar problem and that's what helped me.

When I started using foobar (almost 2 years ago) I missed a lot of songs too. When I started using facets also, I noticed I had songs that missed important tags. Filling the tags solved it.

Try this search to see if my solution will work for you too.
%album% MISSING OR %artist% MISSING OR %title% MISSING

(maybe also genre or date if that is an operator you view your library in.)

Hi all!
Is there a simple method to find all %album artist% fields that are present but empty?
I've searched around the wiki without results...

All my tracks have the "album artist" tag  (I don't know why) but a lot of them have the field empty, so I need to find them and fill the fields. Possibly without manually scan all my library (2600 cd).

You are having troubles understanding foobar, I think. Or maybe just tagging in general.

If %album artist% field is empty, then that track does NOT have an album artist tag.

Unless you are having trouble with compilations showing correctly, there is seldom a need for any value in %album artist%.

Show us a specific example of how one of your tracks that has an empty %album artist% that is troubling you and we can go from there.
Also, where is it in the program where you see Foobar showing that a track an %album artist% tag present, but it is an empty tag.

Try a query like
album artist PRESENT AND album artist IS ""
or
"$if($meta_test(album artist),$meta(album artist),-)" IS ""
Full-quoting makes you scroll past the same junk over and over.

This is an album with the problem:

Yirkha, your strings seems to do nothing in my library.

However many thanks to all

The only issue here is bad tags.
In this case, you just need to edit. Select all the tracks and return to the properties dialog.
Edit the two fields and save. Done.

You are simply seeing a Field / Tag pair that is Field = %Album Artist% Tag = Empty.
It is no different than all the other empty fields whose %Field Name% is not automatically included in the properties dialog OTHER than for a setting in preferences > Advanced >Display > Properties Dialog
PLEASE do not make changes here until you are more familiar with Foobar.

terry

EDIT: I meant for you not to fool with the advanced setting preferences. Editing your tags, of course, is the point here.

tpijag: Sure.
Code: [Select]
album artist PRESENT AND album artist IS ""
\__________________/     \________________/
         |                        |
  Checks if "album artist"        |
field is present. Usual title   |
  formatting remapping for        |
  %album artist% doesn't doesn't  |
  apply here.                     |
                                  |
This one is simple, tests whether
the "album artist" field is empty.
But actually it could be even simpler just like this: album artist IS ""
The second is the same, but in title formatting only:
Code: [Select]
"$if($meta_test(album artist),$meta(album artist),-)" IS ""
     |                        |
     +--- Using $meta_...() to avoid
          the %album artist% remapping.

If "album artist" field is present, return it's value.
If it's not present, return a dash.
Then show the tracks for which this evaluates to an empty string.
Also would be enough like this, I think: "$if2($meta(album artist),-)" IS ""

Fabio258: Seems you don't have tracks like you described after all. Maybe you're just confused about the %album artist% remapping? See Help > Title formatting help:
Quote
%album artist% -- Name of the artist of the album specified track belongs to. Checks following metadata fields, in this order: “album artist”, “artist”, “composer”, “performer”. The difference between this and %artist% is that %album artist% is intended for use where consistent value across entire album is needed even when per-track artists values vary.
Full-quoting makes you scroll past the same junk over and over.

I always forget that you can bypass the built in remapping.

Yes, it's just that i want to do, maybe I cannot explain well (sorry for my bad english). But how can i do to find the tracks without the tag? Only with a manual search album by album?

Just find it! I must search album artist MISSING and not %album artist% MISSING sorry for the mismatch and again thanks to all, you are great!
