equalizer in the new foobar

why the new equalizer is crap like that is the new version?

i don't understand why u don't stay with the old version that tells the level of the HZ u change.

on the new one, u set up or down the buttons, u don't know if it's +1 or +5 or -2 etc.

i don't understand this choice. i'm sorry to tell that but i think it's totally stupid and the new equalizer interface is as crap as the winamp equalizer.

it's like if on my amplifier i had no infos about the volume level. or no infos about your speed in your car.

i thought it will change in next versions but it seems the equalizer will stay like that with no indications about the level for each band. great idea for people that want to make a preset. "oh yes i set this band at i don't know with this new great equalizer"

when i listen to music, i directly know what band i need to change and the level to choose to get the sound i want.

would u please change this ugly and useless equalizer?
if not, ok i'll stay on 0.9.4.5
that's not a problem, if your plans are to code a new foobar with some details u decide it's useless, ok, but i dont ask the moon. can u please make a usefull equalizer?
thanks.

I suggest you go and download the latest version.

The real crap is that the user can't decide how big the steps of change on each band are. You have to go at least with one dB whether you want it or not. If I'd change something, I'd change that... at the best it should be freely configurable or at least 0.25 dB steps.

I understand that you need something like 1 dB-steps to notice a change at all when listening through small computer-monitors; but quite some people do have their computer connected to their high-end stereo system and in this environment such huge steps are useless. I believe it doesn't take much to make that change in the equalizer and won't hurt anybody. Come on guys, it's x-mas!

Exactly. At least I like to get a break from programming and everything, and enjoy the holidays like everyone else.

You must be one of the very few lucky ones who can afford to take a break these days -
congratulations and enjoy the days off, you've obviously earned it.

P.S.: From your post I understand you're some kind of programmer or whatever involved... no need to take things personal, 'ey. My post is about an old suggestion I bring up every six months or so... used to wait here, seen.

I think you should demand your money back    But seriously, this is a free piece of software.  Please try to offer constructive criticisms.

man i have a amplifier myryad mxi2080 and some speakers triangle zays 222 + a soundcard Lynx L22.
and an equalizer like the one in v0.9.4.5 is not useless at all for me. cause i easely find the level of each band i have to change to get the sound i want to ear. not a album got the same sound so an equalizer with mark is a need to me, but it seems i can forget the idea to see a nice equalizer in foobar

i, for my part, set equalizers and such by my ears and not by markings on the panel.
lucky me...

yes and u write without letters and calculate without numbers and speak without words, etc

if i listen to something it dont take me minutes to find the good tune, cause i know with the level and the band the sound i need in seconds. so without the level i just waste time cause i got no mark. if u go thinkin this way, why rules etc. why musicians use marks too etc, there's too much exemples.
if u play music , like it or not but the do,ré,mi,fa,sol are not here for no reason.
so i don't get why an equalizer got no marks. u can delete the song time too, why u need to know how long it is? yes maybe the feeling and the hazard help u and u dont need no mark at all in any part of the life.

good night... i don't need time i feel it's night, i'll wake up at euh i don't know but i'm sure it's always at the same moment, i'm too strong.

of course i use my ears to set equalizer pfffffffffffffffffff, but one day i just know that this band must be at this level cause i allready know the result i'll get cause of those little marks, but it's after, when your sound analysis is fast enough to set it this way. why not delete frequencies too ... u know u got bass on the left and trebles the other side, who cares if it's 40hz or 60hz they're modify? me, and the level is usefull too for me, i'm sorry, the sound starts and it helps me set the way i want in seconds. i'll know what band on what level, it's automatic. but without level i don't know if it's +3 or +5 and i have to do that for each frequency? boring. equalizer useless, too long to find my sound.

i don't understand why you feel the need to affront me as you did, i expressed my opinion, if you can't take it you probably have a problem.
oh and btw. i'm an active bassplayer with more than 20 years of live and studio experience...

excuse me, u're right , i spoke a little hard for nothing.
but i just felt i was not good enough to ear difference without marks on equalizer.
i just wanted to explain why i needed it. i think u understand now why. it's way faster to me to find the sound i want cause of it.
sorry for my agressive post. u're right about that.

hmmm why moderation in your post?

it's ok, i'm sorry if i went to far, i understand that after 20 years of sound, u dont need no lesson, but it was not my message to u, i just stay on my subject about why it's very important to me. after that the fact that u are lucky cause u dont need marks to set equalizers can say that i'm just bad compare to someone that dont need that, i can imagine u want to say u're way superior than me for exemple. so the affront didnt start from my side. but i'm ok to recognize my arrogant style.
so i try my best to stop any trouble i could start posting in this writing style.

I always wondered why the Foobar EQ always stopped at 55 Hz and not below.  A band around 25-30Hz would be very useful.  Just a "constructive" criticism

Actually, two more sliders a half octave apart would be perfect.  So my vote is for one at 39-40 and one at 22-23.  I'm sure that would be an easy addition, add a db scale and it'd be great.  Even Winamp has a Constant-Q, ISO Standard frequency band equalizer that goes down to 31.5 Hz now.

winamp is pretty in his new mode but the equalizer is so small  and got not a mark.
i didnt test it for a long time in fact, let's see.
i found an app equalizer, i'm going to give it a test.

Which equalizer are you testing?  I'd love to find a better one than the current one. This article does a good job of explaining the various types of equalizers.  A 1/3 octave, interpolating equalizer would be ideal, although Constant-Q might be easier to code. This could be an interesting project for someone who really understands DSPs and wants to give foobar2000 the equalizer it deserves.  Make it 31 or 32 bands from 20Hz to 20KHz with real sliders, not some corny graphical interface, and I'd be in love!

i tried graphic equalizer studio but it's not what i need.
i will not pay for that.
the old foobar equalizer is more usefull to me than this graphic thing.

i dont code so i cant make the equalizer that would kill all the rest.

1- u choose number of bands u want
2- u choose the hertz u want for each band
3- u choose to up or down at the DB u want, u need 0.5 db for +1? 1db for +1? etc, u choose the level
4- if u like graphics u can visualize the output or input of your soundcard or the wave etc, the first graphic equalizer of winamp was nice, not the version modern, the old one. the settings were interresting, set the speed up, speed down, have peak level or not that stay or goes down etc. i liked it when it ran at same speed of the music listened. then they forgot those little options on the Modern version. maybe they added it now, but too  much useless things for me as i just need a music player that is the best music player only, and not a videoplayer or burner, or browser, or firewall + antivirus and email thing then instant messanger and little office or little photoshop + cooking then make the washing machine and cut the grass, repair the car talk to your wife and what's next?
i know u can choose what to install but i dont need what they added.

ailef, google "VST parametric equalizers".  I bet you find what you want and can use the good VST plugin to add it to foobar.
