Compressor Trouble

Hi there,

I have a small home studio and I have a dbx compressor, but I didn't use it for a while, yesterday I tried to connect it, but when I set it directly to my guitar amplifier I get almost no sound from it, it's like it was compressing way too much... but I'm not sure if the compressor it's broken or there's another problem, if anybody has this problem or knows a way to identify the source I would be thankful...
