HE-AAC artifacts

So far I've abxed everything in the common bitrates of 24~64k. I hear 'TTTSSSHHHHKKK' smearing artifacts even outside abx. They are not as hideous as mp3 ringing, but its there nearly all the time giving he-aac a signature. I must say the quality per bitrate is great.. BUT he who said that 48k will be near transparent (garf ?) - well not quite.

That's a result of SBR (Spectral Band Replication), where the high frequencies are essentially regenerated/approximated.
SBR is great, but it's far from transparent, for a lot of us anyway. Of course, to the un-trained ear, it's probably fine.
