Hi.
Generally speaking what Source is better for
burning...Wave or Mp3

I'm using Nero to burn the Cds which can also directly take Mp3 and burn them
My Original files are in Mp3 format

Actually I had already converted these Mp3(s) to wave and then was
going to burn them into .cda using Nero.
However I discovered;-sought of jumping or skipping  is I think the best way to
describe it, in 2 or 3 wave files.
I used Dmc to convert the Mp3(s) to wave[PCM- 44100hz,16bit,stereo]

Anyone know why this happens ? Anyway to get round & eliminate this ?
i.e this jumping on conversion to wave.
Does the conversion that I did reduce Quality ? -I was under the impression
its better of that way.

Can anyone advise me as to all the above.

I'm for the most part new to burning Audio Cds

Would much appreciate any help & Information.

Nero should be fine for decoding mp3's on the fly to burn to cd unless you have an old processor + burner without burnproof.  There was a bug in earlier versions of Nero that cut off some of the mp3's intro or something but that has been fixed in versions 5.8.x.x

was fine when I played it.

Both are relatively new. P4 1.7 Ghz with enough RAM &
Samsung SW224 BRNS. -24-10-40
Am using, Nero - 5.5.7.6

I had read the setbacks of Nero  in the FaQ(Which was Excellent) on this site though
they are of a much earlier version. -am trying to find something on their site.

Just that I want to make this CD really good !.........
& so want a decoder that's good. -more so after reading the FAQ 
All my files are in Mp3 format.

Do you know anything about the decoder DMC uses ? -this is what it says
Mpeg1 Layer3 input Decoder  - mp3, mp2, snd, mpga, mpa, mpx, mpg
the compression codec is lame 3.92

When burning MP3 on the fly, Nero converts them to PCM on the fly. A wave file is nothing else than PCM data, commonly called "uncompressed audio". So you don't loose quality conveting to wave first. You just perform by hand what Nero would do automatically.
I prefer converting to wav first. This way I can check that there is no problem (silent wavs, skipping, resample artifacts, mono-stereo speedup, volume...)

Yes. I would prefer to hear them before burning.
Also, Nero. some things about the decoder in the FaQ though a
much earlier version than mine. 5.5.7.6

I would just want the best decoder to do the job.

Any opinions about these...Pio2001
DMC - ? - I mentioned some info in the previous post .It has the convenience of a right click menu. Does it have a good decoder ?
Winamp (v2.81) - ? -just downloaded the latest version.

I read the Faq & Decoder section(Tests). -its just that its a little old
for pesently choosing a decoder. -Other than that it was great!
Can you suggest something considering the present versions of software...

Would appreciate any other info or suggestions.

I don't know MP3 decoders. Since Winamp is widely used to listen to MP3s, even performing listening tests, I think it's decoder is good.
I forgot : Nero 5.5.7.6 might cut the end of your tracks (1/75th of a second each). Upgrade it to 5.5.7.8 at least, the bug was solved.

It is most likely (if you ask me anyhow  ) that your normal CD player was not too keen on your CD-Rs.

Hi.

I've proccessed many files using dmc & use it quite regularly. -& it had not happened until now.
-In fact its a breeze with the |Right click menu|.-So it'd be good  t`know
any probable cause even if its not directly related to the program.

The files I mentioned are Mp3s (downloaded from the web) which I wanted to
convert to .wav & then write on the Cd. -I've not yet written them....
I tried them(the .wav) on the software players on my Pc .

Can you give me some information on the decoder...?
-Mainly, my interest sparked by the FaQs & info at these forums.

when converting to wave, the attributes are PCM , 44,100Hz , 16bit Stereo & 172 KB/s.

Does this 172KB/s make a difference -For example some of the Mp3 that I want
to convert are 192KB/s etc.  -will this effect in anyway......

It uses the XAudio engine, which is pretty bullet proof.

Don't worry about the KB numbers, your mp3s are in Killobits per second, where the wave is Killobytes per second, so the wave is 172KBytes per second and the mp3 is (192 / 8) = 24KBytes per second.

@Spoon: Think I know why those files were skipping.......
-Feel it has something to do with the seeking in the player...winamp(2.81)
-When I use the mouse to jump somewhere in the song; then somewhere,
sometime, later in the song this skipping occurs. -I`m quite sure its this.
I've been able to reproduce it, in winamp(2.81) & Cool Player. - not every time though.

The conversion with dmc worked very well....
I tried the waves ,(uncompressed from Mp3) quite a few times and there
was no problem at all.
