The use of Lame is on the up

hi this is more of an anecdotal update than anything else, but it struck me as really interesting so I thought I would share it.

In the process of keeping up with the latest trends in the dance scenes and seeing what the best DJs are putting on their playlists - i tend to sample a wide variety of tracks from a very diverse range of sources and in the last month I have noticed a meteoric rise in the use of Lame (unless my version of encoder spot has gone bannanas) and the new versions of Lame at that 3.89 / 3.90 / 3.70.

All of these tracks are new release or are only gaining rise in poularity now so they must have been encoded very  recently -  but at least 3-5 out of every 10 new tracks I have sampled at the moment is a Lame encode.

So for those of you out of purely academic interest want to sample a couple of recent dance tracks - you may find yourself pleasantly suprised by how many returns you get from the likes of audio galaxy that are Lame.

In honour of the event and in a desire to educate the new MP3 user I have begun returning the samples with an addition to the song title section - an 'L' + x bitrate for those files encoded with Lame and an 'X' + x bitrate for those poor guys out there still using Xing - i would encourage all others out there to do something similar and let it filter out that an L192 (and I have been suprised at the number of people encoding at this bitrate) is the dogs bollocks while X128 is defnitely the cat's ass

HAHA bollocks and asses.

I have managed to convert may of my friends in the real world as well as the virtual world into using LAME, and not only that to use the ALPHA version (which happens to be magically stable) therefore all of my friends are now "lame --alt-preset standard". Thus we all should be pleasantly suprised by the Quality increase we are going to get.

Thanks for the funny post.

EDIT: Removed the where are you from q's,
