They included lame 4.0 alpha http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=109709

Edit : ops you already know it.  So 56% compression over others mp3 encoders is due to Lame 4.0?

Patent pending. My arse! They are indeed bloody chancers.

I think we've already witnessed Nir Halowani-s last post, and no-one will follow. Uhum .. This is indeed true, since he is banned now.

Actually, if this was leagal and working, it'd be a pretty cool idea.  Using all the best compression techniques in one handy app.  Of course there'd need to be a mode to choose between lossless and lossy for audio / video.

It's a damn shame all these amazing compression programs are fakes.

Well, according to the news section regarding it in its website, there are no more 3rd party software included in it.

Even if that were true, the obviously bogus claims still remain.
Peddle your snake oil somewhere else.

Yeah, I'm sure they replaced all the tools with their own implementations in just a few days.

They were open source implementations, right?  They could have recompiled them..

It'll be funny in a few years, when the integrated tools are deprecated..

Too bad the developer of it is banned. Maybe if whoever banned him, unbans him, he would be able to offer a reply to what the state of the GPL/LGPL problem is.

That would assume they will be still around in a few years. I hope not.

I think this is a serious issue and everybody is concerned. A public message on their homepage that explains things would be highly appropriate.

How can he read/reply to your message if he's banned?

I also think that the developper should be unbanned, in order to be able to provide explanations.

What "explanation" could there possibly be? Their website is down. Scam failed, they're gone, onto the next victim.

Okay then.

Note that on the website they now claim they removed "3rd party software".
  •                                              18.4.2006: Infima Archiver 1.13 released which consist on the following:
    • Bug fix for some of the compression/decompression problems.
    • No quality loss optimization – used only when optimize source files option is set.
    • Fix mp3 decompression problems only for 128kb (Other rates are still lossy).
    • Mp3 decompression – not bit-to-bit reconstruction but retains quality.
    • Video codec's are in some cases still lossy (effect quality) – will be fixed soon.
  •                                              15.4.2006: Infima Archiver 1.12 released which consist on the following:
    • Removed 3rd party software's.
    • Using ImageMagik, VirtualDub and ffmpeg only for sampling purposes.
    • Core implementation consists on FAST PAQ implementation + new concept modeling.
    • New Installation package.

I do not think they should be unbanned. If this would be genuine, they could do it on their website.

Not really true, still using paq8, vdub, etc etc, but now it's encripted.

I love the way they refer to their text compression as a "Portable Document Format"... gee, let me think... pdf.... nah, not much copyright breach there! Yeah right!

From guestbook of maximumcompression: (it's amazing):

About infima 1.13:

I tried to compress a .wav 77mb's pcm 44100 16 bits Stereo.
With La it's 27.250.328
With "this" it's 30.279.081
With wavpack it's 36.241.294
With Wavpack hybrid mode it's 11.322.286

About the video:
I tried to recompress a iv5 (intel indeo 5)- xvid -bik -and vp6 (150frames), 980kb's with audio 22050.
The result it's:

iv5: Closed the same size of xvid (casuality?) hehehhe
xvid, bik and vp6 get more compression with RAR xD

How it works (my theory):
It's a group of programs, vdub, imagview, lame, etc...the "program" analizes the files and distribute wich compressor it's the best for every file, for example:

-all the txt's are packed in file .lan (crypted) like, txt.lan, etc ,etc

And for finish the program join all .lan's in one.

My question is "WHY", why so much work for nothing, what in the world he could gain from a scam like this?
