What is Lame KSi??? (see pic)

I came across this intresting mp3 today which Encspot claims to be encoded by "Lame KSi."  I have never heard of this Lame version before.  Anyone have any idea what exactly "Lame KSi" is?

Here's a picture:

Off Topic:

Where is everyone getting these versions of encspot?  If there is another public beta or something floating around I'd like to know about it, a few of it's features could be pretty useful for me I think (the bit graph for example).

Hehe... so you guys are wondering where I got that version of Encspot eh?  I was lucky enough to become a beta tester, and the version you see is 1.1 beta 2.  It's really awesome, and I'm honestly not sure why it hasn't been released to everyone yet... there are a TON of great new features.  I actually e-mailed Jon Dee (aka Potsticker) a few days ago, but I have yet to hear from him.

i found lots of people claiming that j-stereo sucks (with no reasom why)

Well that's because they want to follow a retarded general 'scene rule.'  And most of them are close minded and just ignore any sentences that contain VBR.

God fear the n00bs who think they're professionals just because they've clung to their n00b beliefs for years.

*EDIT* I posted some pictures of the newest Encspot beta here.  Everyone seamed so excited about all the new features, and I though it would be good to give everyone an updated view of things.  I realized that maybe starting a new thread would be a better idea... this thread has been pushed far off topic already

The new thread is here:

does anyone know what LAME switches any of the ripping groups use?  mine's in the sig.  i've tried abr, vbr and they're good, but for my purposes, 192 is fine.  anyone else care to post their mp3 switches.

N00B!

you should change your switches to --alt-preset cbr 192

help me understand a bit.

use that switch only?  no safejoint or lowpass?  does the -preset switch take those into account?

uhmm read THIS Forum and you'll know what it is )

briefly: The best tuned commandline for Lame, this --alt-preset cbr 192 stands for a long commandline which offers the best quality at a given rate!

Yes, this preset takes into account all of that, as do all of the --alt-presets which have been finely tuned via myself along with the help of many of the other members of this community over a fairly lengthy period of time.

The idea behind the --alt-presets is to simply use and provide basically the highest quality features of LAME possible.  Many times they are tuned seperately at the code level itself instead of just at the switch level.  They are meant to remove the "experimental" nature of many longer lines that people commonly use (many times incorrectly.. for example, --athtype 3 should never be used for ABR/CBR, and I would never use it for VBR either) and provide a single foundation upon which bug fixes and further tunings can be made, but that will be helpful to all users.  This approach works much better than the fragmented and experimental approach which as been common in LAME prior to 3.90.  --alt-preset standard and the quality/bitrate ratio that it provides is pretty much evidence of this I think.

At the moment the abr/cbr presets do not have some all of the same custom tweaking that the vbr presets for --alt-preset do, but that will be changing before too long, at which point most discrete commandline options lose there value as they have with the VBR modes.  The best way to make sure you always take advantage of the latest developments is simply to use the --alt-preset line, any quality improvements found will be automatically defaulted, and you won't always have to worry about whether or not you are using the latest and greatest switches

i think for "release groups" its a matter of being practical, rather than quality. to them, 192kbits stereo with either the radium-fhg codec or lame provide reasonable enough quality to distribute their releases on IRC and between themselves. if 192kbits suits their needs, so be it

what imho is pathetic about all of this is the fact they are editing the string and putting in their group name, and even being diligent enough to put a copyright mark as though they "own" that compile and have actually done any productive work on it. i can just see them bragging all over IRC of having their own "custom version" of lame. hehe.... fucking idiots

This is partially the issue, but having been close to a few people in the "scene" in the past (AMRC, CNMC, SS, etc) I can tell you that many of them simply take an ignorant approach to encoding, actually believing that they ARE providing the highest quality.  They actually do think that anything above 192kbps is pointless, and they think that VBR and joint stereo is completely stupid and horrible for quality.  It's so bad actually that many of them even believe VBR in other codec's (AAC, MPC, Vorbis, I've seen it all) is worthless also.. let alone codecs that are actually VBR native (MPC, Vorbis).  None of this is based on actual listening tests though, its all just a load of misinformation that they cling to as gospel or something.  Sad really because their acceptance of "high quality" could certainly help raise the quality level of many mp3's that are publicly available.
