Hmm, NeroDigital allows you to encode to 5.1 HE-AAC, there won't be any loss of 'surround info' in that case.
(Actually what you're saying doesn't make much sense to me, are you trying to encode 2 channel Dolby Prologic instead of Dolby Digital or something?).

Just wanted to ask the same.

And what's the command-line to start ABC/HR-Java?

(i know, it was written in the 128 kbps aac test's read.me, but i deleted it    )

And what's the command-line to start ABC/HR-Java?

java -jar abchr.jar

On Windows you can just double-click the jar-file in Explorer.

In the first message in this thread, Ivan wrote that the password to the encrypted files with the codec details will be released in 15 days. This would mean that the test is over the 25:th.

Edit: I was to slow...  ... and wrong...

Thank you, i forgot the "-jar" !

Double-Click doesn't work, when *.jar is linked to your zip-archiver :-) .

i like using MatrixMixer to matrix out the surrounds info (and i'm assuming center channel, too, but i don't have one) out of a 2.0 audio file the way the 5point1 output plugin for winamp does and theater sound towers do out of the 2.0 audio info when running in analog (Dolby SR) mode. i'm not exactly sure if and how it relates to Prologic, tho...

edit: oh, and Nero does ok retaining the soundfield in order to matrix out the surround info @ 128kbps (used to do better, back in either the earliest days of the Nero encoder or in the AACEnc days, i don't remember) whereas 64kbps AAC-HE has destroyed a lot of that soundfield...

Hm,

ABC/HR-Java 0.4 and 0.4b4 (with the xml config files) don't work here.
0.4 shows a nearly blank gui with only a few buttons and 0.4b4 freezes after stooping the first playback.

I've had no problems with ABC/HR-Java durig the latest AAC-test.
But ff123's ABC/HR-Java won't be a solution because of the gain-issue.

@elmar3rd: ABC/HR Java was created by schnofler.

@schnofler: Confirming elmar3rd's bug.
ABC/HR Java 0.4b4 always crashes on me when I press stop button!
(regardless of any settings)
Specs:
Gentoo Linux post-2004.0 kernel 2.6.4-mm2
System compiled with 2.6.3 headers, NPTL
CFLAGS="-O2 -pipe -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer"

java version "1.4.1"
Java™ 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build Blackdown-1.4.1-01)
Java HotSpot™ Client VM (build Blackdown-1.4.1-01, mixed mode)

Athlon-XP 2400+
SB Live! Value on ALSA (no .asoundrc settings)

@Ivan: One of the samples (sample1 D) when decoded with faad 2.0 is at 88200Hz.
If it's normal... should I resample?
Both ABC/HR Java 0.4b3 SE and 0.4b4 don't play one sample right here...

Please use the included decoder, or use a post 2.0 version of faad2.

Updating is a plague, but I finally updatet to JRE 1.42_04 and now both mentioned ABC/HR-Versions work.

Thx to Schnofler for his help.

Hm, ok, that was an easy one then.

I agree though, having to download 14MB for a Java Runtime update can be a pain if you don't have broadband. But look at it this way: it's still only half the size of a Nero update.

AstralStorm: Please try whether this solves the problem for you as well, and tell me if it worked.

BTW, session saving was broken in the initial 0.4b4. Fixed now (download link is the same).

@AstralStorm: Any debug messages in the shell? Or just segfault?

A hang, no special output. Not even a segfault. (gulp)
A debuging nightmare.

schnofler: The latest Blackdown-JRE is v. 1.4.2_b1 (something like that) and it's marked as amd64 only(?).
So I shouldn't update to it.
I'll try Sun's JRE, but it's a PITA to install and update it.
(I have to manually download it using the browser)

Yes, those are deadlocks (two threads waiting for each other to finish something). Threading issues are indeed a bitch to debug. That's why I'd rather not do it if the fault is actually on the JRE's side.

I don't have any experience on this, but the Blackdown site says:
Quote
December 20 2003
    New releases:
        * Java 2 SE 1.4.2-rc1 for AMD64 (aka x86_64) and i386 released

And the i386 version of the JRE 1.4.2rc1 is available for download on their mirrors.

I have another problem: ABC/HR Java can't play the file at 88200Hz on my SBLive
under Linux, regardless of ALSA settings. It jus plays the samples as they come - the file gets very low in pitch.
Both aplay and Foobar2000 under Wine work all right.
The files mentioned are samples D.

If decoding worked correctly, there shouldn't be any file at 88.2kHz. As Menno noted above you have to use a post-2.0 version of faad2 for decoding.

Guess I had missed it. Thank you for the information.

EDIT: Yes, with newest faad from CVS all is well. But I'll do the testing tomorrow. (eh, well... later today)

IIRC, the current Java sound API itself can't play frequencies higher than 48kHz

Thank you all for the participation.  I will analyse and publish the results in the next few days - and post them on HA.
