+ not showing before Albums in Columns UI - Album list Panel

I'm a bit of a foobar novice, but I think these are the 'things' relevant to my problems, and I'm using the latest version of them: foobar 2.1.1, Columns UI 2.1.0 and Album list panel 2.0.2

I have 2 problems:

1) In 'Album list panel', the '+' before an Album you click to display the Album's track list is missing, so I can no longer directly access individual tracks.

2) Instead of the selected Album's name being displayed appropriately in 'Album list panel', it's just a 'white bar'.

I've been very busy and don't know how long, this has been going on for 3 months maybe as while inconvenient it's simple to work around.

I think it was OK in V1, don't know if upgrading to V2 started it, it went very smoothly, but maybe I missed it. Not sure how many new versions of V2 I've installed, so cannot say what version it definitely started with, if it's due to upgrading to V2. But it was definitely doing it in V2.1, and I've upgraded to V2.1.1, and it's still doing it.

A thing to note is I've got 'Album list panel' set to: Show caption, Hidden, and Auto-hide.

I've just noticed under Library on the menubar an 'Album List' option. This pops up a new window which displays my Albums and they have a '+'. It also replaces my current playlist with my entire Album collection, while the CD/Playlist I am listening to continues to play - Is this some else code or do I have a third problem?

Running on: Intel 64-bit PC, up-to-date Windows 10 64-bit.

Can anybody please help in any way?

There's clearly something strange happening with your Windows visual theme as other parts of the UI are incorrect.

Have you installed any software to customise the appearance of Windows?

Not sure about your main problem (though I wonder have you set custom highlight color?) ...

However the Library > Album List menu item opens the Default UI pop-up of Album List (and follows settings in Preferences > Media Library > Album List). Not the same as the Columns UI component (under Album List Panel).

"installed any software to customise the appearance of Windows?"

I don't think I've intentionally done so, as I like to keep as close to stock Windows as possible, so I don't get lost when I use other people's PCs, as they are usually stock Windows. Apart from that, I use 'Classic Start Menu' to get an XP-like start menu, as I just could not take the one in Windows 10. But have been using this for years without a problem.

"as other parts of the UI are incorrect."

I've not noticed any, apart from you cannot read the menubar. This 'happened' when support for 'Colours and Fonts' arrived in Columns UI with a Mode Tab, or when the Tab was added and I noticed this. It allows you to set your Mode to, White, Black or System setting, my Windows Mode is black and has been for as long as possible. So in foobar, if I select Black or System setting, I get a black theme and this is when I cannot read the menubar as attached in my first post. I usually set my foobar Mode to System setting.

If I set my Mode in foobar to white, I get a white theme and can read the menubar, but this does not fix either of my two problems :(

I would attach a screenshot of foobar white Mode, but I cannot see how to attach a graphic to this one and cannot edit my first post :(

I've not used themes in Windows 10 apart from I think I've modified what I assume is the default one, which came with. Stuff like using, a dark theme, changing a few colours and the wallpaper, not a lot I think, but it's been fine for years.

Have you got any thoughts about themes or anything else that might help?

Is there some way to save foobars and Columns UI settings so that if I reinstall, I can set it up quickly?

Thanks.

The things are are unexpected in your screenshot (for dark mode) are:

  • text colour of the menu bar
  • colour and style of the playback order drop-down toolbar
  • colour and style of the column titles
  • colour and style of the Album list panel scroll bars
  • style of the expand and collapse icons in Album list panel – I don't recognise your ones at all

I wouldn't have expected a start menu replacement to cause this, but I'd still try disabling it to see if it helps.

What is the Windows build number (obtained by running winver.exe)?

If you switch to light mode and change scheme to 'System' on the Colours tab on the Colours and fonts page, do the Album list panel problems go away?

Failing all that, if it's a fully up-to-date Windows 10 installation, I'd create a System Restore point and check for corrupted system files. (You could also investigate if there's anything unusual going on in C:\Windows\Resources\Themes, but you'd need another Windows 10 installation to compare against if you don't know what you're looking for.)
