foobar2000 v1.6.2 beta 1 feedback - clicking album art

Not sure if this is just how I use foobar2000, but now that v1.6.2 changes the default action of double clicking on the album art, to get the album art to be shown in Explorer (which I frequently do) takes more time. Now you have to right click and choose Show in Explorer.

Is there any hope of making the default double click behavior a toggleable advanced option, as in keep the current behavior or show in Explorer?

I was about to post exactly the same request! I understand you can right click to 'view in explorer', but could this perhaps be added as default behaviour using a toggle in advanced settings or something?

This has been a fast and handy way of getting to the folder for over a decade now, I'm sure we're not the only people who use it constantly  :(

I was the one who suggested the new behavior so blame me for that. :)
I think the new behavior is more practical and more modern.

Difference is, that you can set up custom keyboard shortcut to open containing folder while there is no other way around (to view cover art by keyboard shortcut).

Perhaps an advanced settings toggle could determine which gets put in the secondary right click position, "open folder" or "open artwork"? That way everyone is happy :)

Not liking this change either. Would love to see it configurable.

I do not like this change either.
I often forget the new default and when i double click, like I've always done, I get an large image instead :(

An toggle or option in advanced settings wold be nice...

You made a bad suggestion. It obviously isn't at all more practical if you need to do more for the same action previously.

To me it definitely is. I enjoy to watch full screen cover art when listening to an album.

I hardly see "enjoy full cover art" as a valid argument to have two actions to reach a result (right click, select from menu), as opposed to just one (double click) as "definitely" more practical.

For those affected by this and not wanting this here's a slight alternative. Use foo_run to create an action to open image or image folder then bind that action to a keyboard shortcut. Sure, it's not as easy as double click but at least it's an alternative choice.

I don't want to argue with you what option is more practical. Tastes are different and I can't argue about that.

As to your suggestion you can also do simple CTRL+O (or whatever you want) shortcut key to open file directory just like it was on older cover art double clicking action. There is also option to right click > Show in explorer, on cover art to locate it in folder.

Ctrl O doesn't work. Perhaps in your configuration it does but it certainly isn't playlist viewer independent which a keyboard shortcut is.

I just noticed this.

Do you mean you can't open cover art in explorer by keyboard shortcut? Because you can. I have keyboard shortcuts to open image folder (which is an independent folder, not located in the same folder as music files), one to open image straight in photoshop (for editing purposes), and one keyboard shortcut to view image full screen in my default image viewer (picasa). All with foo_run.

^ I meant you can open file containing folder to locate cover image with shortcut key (works with CTRL+O at my configuration at any playlist of selected file) but can't open cover art by shortcut key by default.

Yes, with foo_run it is possible as many other options.

I should have stopped writing way before I did,  oh well I think I repeated myself 5 times each points, but there are really hae some points that I watnted to pass across >>

Hey hey hi old topic 😘😘
I would also add just like the other people said, that I don't like this option and what in fact this option took from us, in reality, much more than meet the eyes I would say!
I'ts a matter of our time and clicks we're talking about here! "We all now feel" like a prejudice has been done to the middle man, taken from the middle ground to the advantage of the other party, our clicks have gone away to profit elsewhere!
Worst of all, we now have to go in a menu each and eVery bits of time, this is a horrible nightmare(scenario!)

This new not-asked-for-/ AKA / tires-on-the-road obstruction🤠 feature should have been an option for the concerned user(s) only, no prob for that Sir, but The Amateurs, our feature was there before ! 🦌
Yes it should have been simply an option in the advanced menu, for the concerned minority who would want this option available for them, so then it would nt have been a downgrade for us.
Having constantly to target for the menu when using the mouse gestures, imposes us to always micro move the mouse it takes the attention span for 2 seconds every time 🤿⛄

By this calculation I will show it all how it works, see below for details

Before it was 3 clicks (3) it went now to one more click for us and one less for the other party(+1 / -1) = (4, 2) !!! (and the 2 are double clicks , so we could almost say  1 , one gesture to flood us with 4 overnight by surprise and also add the annoyance of the menu Sir,  the worst of it all.

No not a modern feature bcz the feature affected us too, we are not dead Sir, not yet and if you asked me before I would hae said 'Not even from my cold dead hands, Sir!"  Not a modern feature because this regression was for us, we felt it, still feel it to this day Sir,  it makes us feel back to 20 years ago in the Kazaa days eww, because the longer it takes for a simple feature to finish doing it, the less modern/ubiquitous it really is, isn't it. 💈🧷🧹🧺

Why, oh why disturb the populace who have hard arm job things to do every day, what they want when they play with their files is to keep their mouse clicks the less intensive possible, yes let the citizens be, be chilling when the Foobar amateurs feels like to, when we have time we do and we like to keep our click habits which were working well like they are when to work well fo moe things around without the need to replace/intensify what's was working well already process was working good already, as so the proverb says.

Because if we want to see real covers we grab the big .tiff files.. Which is in the explorer folder, same as the music files, so we supposed to be  both happy , files and images both in explorer equality of clicks

The explorer folder (which used to be our middle ground you see Sir, both you and us had double click before, to get our common ground, then was the selection which was another click, so 3 for both of us in all, now  Sir, we get a menu which is unpleasant for the brain because i demands a mini focus every F time Sir, that and you took the double click (in reality which equals to one gesture) for your party alone, and we don't even know if this party exist for real or is it only an oligarchy or something, neertheless, no offence Sir, obiously.

Before that it was double + 1 selection for both of us , did I told this already hmm not even sur of whats real anymore This is starting to look not catholic if you ask me!
)
Also this feature comes in second after we had ours, and I mean ours like we had both equal clicks before, now it's al on your party's adantage, Sir. the amateurs were equally using the software before, and we need as much brain-hungry features as we can, just like you, that's why this feature shouldn't have been done over our expence, for real this feature should have went in second beneath our first foundation, like our common ground ("equality over clicks") should have had priority over it

Or ye could have asked for a function that was not taken already, I had this idea, I mean, you could take the left click we take the right click, we should stop this horrible war already, take any side click, we'll take the other, it's a fair deal. Think of the amateurs!

"Make a shortcut" that is insulting and cruel Sir, why didn't you do a shortcut yourself instead? For real, we were there before, the citizens, the noble n00bz chilling amateurs citizens of the Foobar,  think about the n00bz, you let the n0Obz down, you ravaged them like with just as like a toilet brush but not on their toilet, more like  as if you don t care if its irritating or if it een fits, think about the n0Obz for once, did you not even care about the clicks that accumulates on our back every bits of gestures we makes to moves things around, we won t be able to move things around soon, all for a sweet caprice, a smaller version of a real cover and a slightly bigger version of the one already there in the display, think about it, you have influtuated on us all 2 more clicks every bits of moves we do 200 times a day who knows how much

I will have to revert to the version where this unjust click appropriation wasn't making me crycry so much, about this beautiful machine of a software that I love and give the new version a kiss goodbye😊🛴

No but, for real, this is regressive, give us a mouse click (left or right, I'll take any at this point! ) but not a F menu!! And I already had a shortcut to open folder in explorer it's just that it's a much better feeling to have our middle ground , balanced, what's the point otherwise! why not ask (to the leader of the Foobar pack) if a double right click could be possible to have the same function back, I ask because  a double right click  is not used I believe, but you are much more foobar-savy than us simple Foobar-amateurs, Sir, I am just the messenger   and we would be both hungry party happy.
We will wait patiently the time we will have our clicks back, still playing with the old foobar version, because its all good

Best regards, Sir!

I for one, or perhaps the second, think it was a very wise suggestion that requires no blame. I read through all the vitriol and anger about not being able to click and open the containing folder and have to assume it's people who still have limited drive space and don't want to embed their artwork. Don't know percentage is, but surmise more people would rather see the larger cover art on pop-up after clicking then open the containing folder. Other than that, Foobar serves as a file explorer,.

Ever notice whenever there is a thread mentioning track ratings, someone will inevitably come in to post that they don't use ratings or believe in rating music?
