FB2K Freezes constantly while playing streams!

Hi,

I've just converted from longtime Winamp 2.x use and am totally sold on FB2K.    However, after some 12 hours of using FB2K, the situation has become rather intolerable as described in the following:

1. Installed latest 0.667 on P4, 1.8Ghz Win XP Pro machine with 512 RAM. Audio device is onboard Realtek AC97 (I know, I know).

2. Connected to Shoutcast stream (tried several in rotation, listening to each for about 2 hours) using Kernel Streaming and DirectSound (KS sounds louder and much more vivid) but both play OK.

3. After around 12 hours of constant playback of streams, FB2K started clicking and popping heavily using KS. Switched to DirectSound and the clicks mostly went away but now the streams started freezing every few seconds. CPU usage remained very low. RAM usage less than 1/2 of total. No excessive or extraordinary network activity like file-sharing etc.

4. Tried increasing Output Buffer Length to 5000ms. No joy. Hardware mixing disabled. Removed ALL DSP plugins then renabled each one (EQ, Attenuator, Advanced Limiter, Resampler) one by one in different order. No single plugin seems to be the cause. Even with ALL DSP disabled, freezes still occurred.

5. Towards the end of around 10 hours of streaming playback, while using DirectSound, I get the following in the Console:

INFO (CORE) : opening file for playback : http://205.188.209.193:80/stream/1006
WARNING (foo_input_std) : mpeg stream error at 155520021 bytes, attempting resync

6. However, after stopping and restarting FB2K and reconnecting, no more 'resync' errors were reported but still the freezes occurred every few seconds, sometimes several quick stutters in a row. In Preferences > Status Display, I notice that whenever a freeze occurs, the running info under Playback status would freeze for as long as the playback freeze is happening. So the Playback status might be updating continually and then suddenly it would stop at, say

DSP latency: 0 ms
Output latency: 2010 ms
Decoding position: 27276843 ms

for a few split-seconds before continuing.

7. Against my will, I fired up Winamp 2.91 using Input > in_mp3.dll, Output > out_ds.dll to listen to the same streams. Playback was ok.

Can anyone please help? FB2K is too good a program and I would like to get this solved.

Thanks.

chee
