ThinkGeek's gramophone engraver/player

I just had to share this thing, which at $80 sold out pretty quick: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/164f/

[blockquote]The secret is in the stylus. You can use the bamboo stylus to play records (and you cut that stylus yourself) or you can use the metal stylus to cut (i.e., record) your own records! Use the included recording sheets or any extra CDs you have laying around.[/blockquote]
Cutting styli yourself! What do the clarinet/saxophone/oboe players around here say to that?

Here's a close-up of the engraving stylus: http://a.tgcdn.net/images/products/additio...kit_cutting.jpg

I don't know what you had expected me to say? Cutting it isn't difficult, getting it playing perfectly is another matter entirely. I don't think anyone expects sublime quality out of this kit, so cutting those things yourself will be part of the fun (it works!) while you'll probably won't notice much quality difference.

Ah, that's exactly why I asked, didn't think of that one. Good idea!
