Read tags on load?

I'm probably just completely stupid, and my searching skills are probably below zero, but I wasn't been able to found how to disable reading of tags on file load.. I only want them to be read on play.. I don't want to age hours when loading huge directories!

Is it even possible?

Just enable the database and load up all your music files once, then restart foobar and you're done. It's lightning fast opening all your directories

Yeah, I did that, but that's one more component in memory which I don't need - it would be so much simplier to just NOT read tags on load..

I really dought that the database will use up that much memory.  I also don't think that it would be so much simpler  not to read the tags on load, since most people will probably want an up to date playlist.  Of course as long as it's optional I wouldn't mind.

Just think you would be better off simply using the Database as Anza said.  But that's just my humble opinion.

If you're worried about memory. I suggest you start foobar with database support and without and compare VM usage. You'll see that it is negligible.

If I am reading the database config page correctly all enabling the database does is have foobar write the database to disk.  When you load files to the playlist they are added to a "database" in ram no matter what, just if its enabled it also writes them to disk so it can reload the info from there instead of from the file, so enabling or disabling shouldn't really have an effect on ram usage.

That is BS. Like Zanson pointed, "enabling database" only keeps file tags in memory and writes them to database file on shutdown / reads them back from database file on startup, so no tag reloading occurs.
There are better reasons to keep database enabled anyway (album list component, which lets you add your files to playlist in a much more efficient way).
"Disabling reading tags" would only break a lot of useful features.
