Disabling 'Automatically synchronize file tags with statistics'

For a while, I've been syncing my playback statistics with the actual audiofile metadata - I had my reasons. Now this is not necessary any more and I'd like not just to stop doing it, but also to remove this metadata from the files... but not from foobar's own database.

What's the best way of doing this? (i.e. what are the ID3 tags I can safely remove?)

Can I ask why you want to stop doing it, any why you want to remove this metadata from the files?

Thanks!
