Pop/Crackling between tracks

I've been having this issue for some time now. Both mp3's and flac's have some kind of delay and a pop or crackle when a track ends and another is about to start.
This happens in both windows media player (which I'm primarily using) and VLC (it's even worse here as the audio pops each time you skip ahead). Media player classic however has no problem switching tracks without pops, on the other hand it has delays between the tracks that are not supposed to be there.
I'm often playing continuous tracks, so the problem is extremely annoying.
I have tried merging the tracks in audacity; there are no delays, pops or crackles then, so I have been thinking about merging albums entirely and go with flac+cue files instead. However, since this is quite an undertaking with many albums, I was hoping that perhaps there's an easier solution.

Oh, I forgot to add, changing music player is not an option for me.

Just use foobar2000. Or Winamp. Or any other real music player.

An easier solution would be to do what skamp suggested, but unfortunately that's not an option for you.

C.
PC = TAK + LossyWAV  ::  Portable = Opus (130)

If you limit yourself to using crap - you are limited to using crap.

Why not? I don't suppose the reason is corporate restrictions: why would they allow VLC?

If corporate restrictions is the issue, just run a portable foobar2000 installation from a USB stick.

No, the reason is wmp's odd way of showing artists and albums which I haven't been able to implement in winamp or other music players. Perhaps I should ask in foobar2000 forums on how to get it working there instead, as it seems to be customisable enough. I suppose I'll have to switch anyway the next time I change operative system.

That's probably the best thing you can do (on Windows).

Do you mean operating system? Do you mean upgrading Windows? There are other solutions on other operating systems. I like Quod Libet on Linux.
