Columns UI: Quick Search features

So I just discovered fb2k and so far it's been awesome. I've been able to customize everything to my liking except for one feature. I have ColumnsUI installed, and when I begin typing in a selected window (NOT the crtl+f feature) it begins searching for songs with titles that match what I'm typing. What I would prefer though is for it to look for artists that match what I'm typing, then ideally if it can't find any, look for a song title. I'd settle for just artist search, but I can't seem to figure out how to change these settings.

For example, if I start typing in "foo", I'd like it to bring up the artist "Foo Fighters", but instead it brings up the song "Footnotes" by The Silent Comedy.

tldr: How do I customize the auto search that happens when just typing in a window (no crtl+f)

Any ideas?

That's the type-find feature you're describing. It doesn't have any settings as it only searches in the TITLE tag.

Since you use CUI, you could add this component to your layout, but it looks and functions differently than foobar's built-in type-find.

First, it's an actual toolbar that's hidden until you access it by keyboard shortcut or by button. You have to bind it yourself. It's hidden in the Edit menu, and the only places it is visible in that menu are the Keyboard Shortcuts and Button Options dialogs.

Secondly, it's configurable but you can only access those settings by selecting it in the tree in the Layout tab in the CUI Preferences and then clicking on the "Configure..." button also located there. In the dialog box that opens you'll want the "Search mode" dropdown set to Search from beginning by pattern. In the text box, you'll want to enter a hyphen-separated string of title formatting fields in the order that you want them searched (searches are always left to right starting with the first letter of the field), e.g. %artist% - %title% or simply %artist%. Enter as few or as many fields as you wish.

Thirdly, it's an abandoned beta, but I've never experienced any problems with it. It's biggest problems in my experience are that it's unintuitive to set up and the background is white and cannot be changed (which can make it a bit conspicuous, but luckily it automatically hides itself when not in use).
