Trouble sorting with Various Artists

I've been at my wit's end for a couple of hours and I still can't solve my problem. I'm trying out foobar to replace iTunes and Winamp for certain functions (listening to random tunes and such.)

By default, any song with an artist tag but has "Various Artists" in the Album Artist shows up where it's grouped with the original artist, rather than in an individual "Various Artists" group like in iTunes. Like so:

A
- 1
Various Artists
- 3 // B
B
- 1
- 2
Various Artists
- G // D
D
- X
- Y

What I want to do is this instead:

A
- 1
B
- 1
- 2
D
- X
- Y
Various Artists
- 3 // B
- G // D

Is there any way to do this? Is it a syntax I'm missing? Do I need a certain plugin or skin to do that kind of sorting? I tried with Columns UI and SimPlaylist but got nowhere with either one.

No, you just need to sort/group by album artist rather than artist…


Problem is that it has the Various Artists areas sorted correctly, but still has separate entries, rather than have them bundled together. Could it be a tag issue?

Is this in the Album List or in your playlist?
