AAC decoder speed: FAAD vs Orban plugin

I tried to use FAAD to decode samples of one hour length, and found out that on lab test machine speed achieved is somewhere around 2.5x realtime, when using Orban DSHOW filter, i have nearly 30x realtime speed.  Am I missing something?  Can the FAAD be recompiled or run-time configured so it has a better performance?

Thanks, that's really interesting.  I'll try to recompile or use pre-cooked .dll
