Media library is very incomplete

My media library problem (sort of) falls under the thread title, but is somewhat different than the original one described.

i have one folder tree assigned as my media library. i have no CPU issues that i've noticed. However, the library is very incomplete. It's hard to determine any common trait in files that aren't being included. i'm using OGG and MP3 primarily, and i'd say 90% are VBR of either format.

Attempting to add one of the folders that isn't included in the library fails (presumably because it's a subfolder of an existing monitored folder).

System particulars:
WinXP 32 SP3
fb2k 0.9.6.2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 w/ 4GB DDR2

i can give examples of file specs that are or aren't included, but like i said, i can't see any obvious common elements.

Thanks for any help.
