CD Burner Spin Down Noise

This is probably a stupid question, but on my Sony CDRW drive, I notice that sometimes the drive makes a "skidding" type sound when I go to eject the CD - is that just because it needs to spin down first and I'm ejecting it too soon?

My Lite-On DVD-ROM drive does the same thing. I never thought much of it.

Once you press the eject button, the drive engages the spindown process before it actually spits the disc out. So basically it doesn't matter what state you're ejecting from - the drive puts the brakes on before it gives the disc back to you.

Thanks! That makes sense. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong with my drive.
