Winamp Plugin and 5.1

I noticed the Winamp plugin can play 5.1 files but is it remixing to stereo? Is there anyway to obtain 5.1 from Winamp using Wavpack?

Have you tried checking the 'Allow surround sound' checkbox in the Preferences>Playback section?

Yes it is ticked already. It must be that the Emu 0404 cant do 5.1. Foobar outputs only the Left and right channels when using the Asio plugin but Winamp seems to automatically down mix.

Just to confirm, Winamp can output 5.1 from 5.1 wave sources with thie right soundcard?

Well, you've heard the man, and I can tell you that I have no trouble playing multichannel files with Winamp.

This is a deficiency in the WavPack plugin for winamp. Fortunately, I think it's pretty easy to fix but I've just been too busy to get to it...

In response to the query about multichannel support in the WavPack winamp plugin I have created an alpha version. Since I was in there anyway, I took the opportunity to clean up and fix some other things.

Here's what's new:
  • added option to pass multichannel audio to output
  • added option to pass all audio as 16-bit (for better compatibility)
  • added option to output 24-bit audio when ReplayGain is active
  • changed high-resolution output from 32-bit to 24-bit (allows winamp EQ to work, and probably other things)
  • fixed bug that caused the seek bar to sometimes vacillate when moved
  • performance enhancement from 4.41
  • added genre display to info box

I have tested this with winamp 5.01 and 5.35 and verified that multichannel audio is being passed, but any other testing is appreciated.

Works as advertised, don't have any 32-bit audio tho.

Mabbe it's just me, but I'd eliminate the "blop" sound it produces when track info is displayed, no big deal clearly.

You don't need any 32-bit audio to test with. The problem was that before this revision the plugin would send even 24-bit audio out as 32-bit. This generally worked, but I was told that many DSP plugins required 24-bit audio to work, and I noticed myself that the built-in winamp EQ did not work correctly either. This change should correct all that.

It's not just you who thinks that sound on the info box is annoying! I tried to eliminate it, but the function I am using to create that display (MessageBox) does not seem to have an option to turn it off (I looked). I have all Windows sounds turned off, so it doesn't bother me any more...

24/88 and 24/96 lossless 5.1 OK for me. I think the tag noise must be sent using Windows audio rather than through Winamp since it does not happen on my setup (Which does not play Windows audio)

Decoding is more CPU efficient than multichannel WMA on Winamp

Sorry about digging up an old thread but it seems Winamp 5.52 does not offer the same config options for the Wavpack plugin and 5.1 cannot be selected. Is this a known issue?

Hmm. I just downloaded and installed 5.52 (I was still at 5.5) and it seems to work exactly the same with the latest WavPack plugin. I configured it to play multichannel and winamp reported "surround" when I played a 5.1 track. Are you sure you're using version 2.5a8 of the plugin?
