Trouble ripping Lateralus

Hi, I've just bought Lateralus by Tool (Gifted away the old one in panic), and decided to rip it once more - perfectly.
Trouble, however, arises in the very last minutes of the CD, where EAC gets some trouble reading the disk, starts error correcting, spins down, spins up again, down, up, etc.
Again, this CD is mint fresh. Completely untouched by human hands, out of the box. I've configured my drive settings in EAC correctly using AccurateRip. My drive is a rarely used Plextor PX-740a drive.
I tried ripping Ænima, and it (also completely untouched CD) rips perfectly without errors.

When ripping into individual tracks, AccurateRip reports that everything worked out perfectly:

End of status report

As you can see, the track quality is not 100% on all tracks. Am I being too paranoid? Am I misunderstanding what "Track Quality" means in EAC? Is there a way to fix this?

Track Quality only describes the amount of extra re-reading that was needed during the extraction. "COPY OK" means the rip is error free(in EAC's view).

When you get 99.9%, it means that EAC had to re-read something to make sure it was correct, but if it says 'Copy OK' the rips are fine.

You have perfect rips. AccurateRip does not lie, especially with a confidence of >2 (you have 6 and 7). As for your track quality, its been explained above.

Also, I see you are using a plextor drive. You most likely can over-read into the lead in/out to in theory get a more perfect rip, which you are not currently doing.

Hi,
Thanks for the reaffirmation.

Eli - When I ask EAC to autodetect my read features, it says I can only overread into lead-out. What gives? Maybe it's because the 740a is really just a repackaged drive of some other manufacturer?
I'll go check the product specs for the drive. (edit: No, it cannot overread)

Also, could there be a way to make EAC rip perfectly in one go, without re-reads?

Re-reads are the whole point it can rip perfectly, don't worry about them. For even greater confidence, to a test and copy, and check the CRC's match for all tracks.

If however accurate rip concurs, there's not to muc point, especially when EAC also detects no errors.

The 99.9% often comes when EAC encounters a new track, it re-reads and sometimes the first line of error correction lights light up, ths is nothing to worry about though, its just doing its job

When AccurateRip says "Ripped accurately", you can ignore what EAC says.

"Copy OK" can still be reported even though there was an error.

Test and Copy is the best way to go when AccurateRip has no data for a particular disc but even Test and Copy isn't 100% reliable.

Here's something to chew on, these are all rips of the same track:

Code: [Select]
Used drive  : PLEXTOR DVDR   PX-716A   Adapter: 3  ID: 1
Read mode   : Secure with NO C2, accurate stream, disable cache

     Track quality 99.8 %
     Test CRC AE99CD57
     Copy CRC AE99CD57
     Copy OK

     Track quality 99.7 %
     Test CRC 4AB5F428
     Copy CRC 4AB5F428
     Copy OK

     Track quality 99.7 %
     Test CRC 4AB5F428
     Copy CRC 727F4614
     Copy OK

Plextools gets this track right every time with the correct CRC being 4AB5F428 (verified by AccurateRip and a second copy of this disc that rips cleanly).

I have learned to take Secure T&C rips with a grain of salt.  Burst T&C has yet to give me matching CRCs for a bad rip (though this track can't be extracted accurately using Burst mode).
