Because the developpers do not want users to tweak the config. file and by doing so generate unwanted/useless support requests.

I've actually woul'd like to have some config parts moved into separate files. Like masstager scripts.. they're all in that one config file.. and there's no way to import/export them (all at once) between foobars. Unless you just copy and overwrite all configuration.

Thank you for not acting like children at the keyboard for the first time and posting legitimate answers/responses.

I too would like to be able to copy/remove items in the config.

I don’t see how that would make foobar anymore error prone as it rewrites its config each shutdown. Which by the way, I wish I could set read only with out foobar telling me about it.

Other programs that have plain text config’s are, Winamp, Gaim, Firefox etc.
Never had(or heard of) a problem.

I use something called Piccheck, which goes some steps further and gives you the option of whether to use the windows registry or an INI file, lets you switch whenever you want, and automatically backs up the ini file.

Same question has been asked several times for the .fpl files. In case of text configs the idea is: "The user will screw his config up and whine for support". See the transcoding warning in that context.
