Converting FLAC to mp3, how to?

I've now spent many hours searching this forum and trying to figure this out--thought it would be easy, but it's not.

I have a handful of FLAC files that I want to convert directly to mp3.  It's my understanding that foobar2000 is supposed to do this, but for the life of me I can't figure out how.

I got as far as installing foo_clienc.dll into the component library, but now when I try running conversions it says that it failed because it couldn't start lame.exe.

How do I do this?

Also important--I want to encode at 160kbps CBR

-and I want it to carry over the tags from the flac files.

Any help is much appreciated

thanks!

you'll have to define your own command line them... the preset assumes -V 2 --vbr-new

What version of foobar are you using...? 0.8.3 or .9RC?

in 0.8.3 diskwriter is responsible for conversions... find that section and preferences and edit the lame preset as desired...

...same thing for .9 except it's called converter instead of diskwriter...

look under the wiki here for the correct CBR command line string... see if that gets you pointed in the right direction

Well, it looks like my situation is a little unique--when I try and encode, it says: "Writing to encoder failed"

??

I am using lame.exe--I just copied that file from my Exact Audio Copy folder (and it's used there regularly with success).

I am using foobar version 0.8.3

What command line are you using?

I.e.: what is in the Parameters text box?

Ok, got it figured out.  It was the parameter box.  Cool program, but frustrating as hell.

Thanks for the help!

To encode to CBR 160 edit a LAME preset and change the parameters to:

-b 160 - %d

Your situation is not unique.  Many members do not read posts properly.
