Changing volume slider in taskbar (xp) to "Wave"?

I wasn't sure if this was the right forum to post this in so please forgive me if this should have gone someplace else.  I have been searching the forums for a few hours now I cannot find any answer to my question.

Does any one know of a way to change the volume slider in the taskbar of windows xp so that it controls the wave out instead of the main volume control?  I am using a digital soundcard which renders the main volume control useless - turning it up and down doesn't affect the volume at all.  I can double click on the volume icon and then the mixer comes up giving me full control over the wave volume, but I'd like to be able to control it directly from the taskbar if at all possible.  I was hoping maybe there would be some registry modification that would make this possible.

Thank you for any help.

Have you tried Volumizer? http://fp.futuresights.com/~angstrom/volumizer.html
What is your soundcard?

Thanks for the help. I will try that program when I get home tonight.

My soundcard is the onboard s/pdif output that is included with my motherboard which is an Asus K8V.

Again, thanks for the help.

It seems that a lot of users have the same problem with Asus K8V...

Have you checked the configuration of speakers (2 channel, 5.1 and so on) and what kind of speakers you're using?

Really?  I thought that it would function this way with any digital output.  So if I just buy a cheap digital soundcard then the main volume slider will actually affect the volume that comes out of the speakers?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that.  I have 5 speakers and a subwoofer in this room, but I set my amp to "stereo" when I listen to music and to "PL II Movie" when I play movies.  When I play music the sound only comes through the left and right speakers, and when I play movies the sound comes out of all 6 speakers.

OK, I just tried volumizer and that didn't really help me.

Anyone else know of any way to do this?  I assume there is a way to change this in the registry but I'm just not sure which sections of the registry deals with this stuff.  Thanks for any help.
