Possible to check which vbr mode was used?

Say if I have some mp3 files, is it possible to check which -vbr mode was used with LAME? I'm talking about the old vs new one. With encspot I can see the LAME version used, joint stereo etc etc, so is it possible to find this out too?

Thansk!

MrQuestionman looks like EncSpot, only better. Would it make sense to switch?

Yes.  Mrquestionman is intended as a modern encspot.

Tried it out a little, it looks great and works great. I just miss one thing, the color coding of Encspot. I don't even really need that in Encspot, but it makes comparing a a tad faster, and visuals like that makes the job easier for my brain even though I can read the info I need from the text.

Encspot shows VBR old /VBR new as well, but you probably have to add this column in the options if you want it displayed. It can read the Lame tag as well (right click on the file > Lame header)

I've been using EncSpot for a while now and still find it superior to Mr.Questionman (no disrespect, I think mqm is an excellent app also), mainly for it's ability to detect "sync errors", show the lame header, and the right-click>Details info.  Who knew bitrate histograms would be so hypnotizing.  The "quality" color-coding is somewhat nice also.

It's a shame that development of EncSpot seems to have ceased.  I'd love to see it's funcionality extended to other audio formats i.e. aac, ogg, lossless.

I also love those histograms. I even upgraded to Encspot Pro, which is still actively developed and shows even more of those histograms, e.g. chronological bitrate and bit reservoir distribution over the file

EncSpot Pro is still being developed  who gave you that information? I still got EncSpot Pro Beta 1 build 489. What did you get?
--alt-presets are there for a reason! These other switches DO NOT work better than it, trust me on this.
LAME + Joint Stereo doesn't destroy 'Stereo'

I have Encspot Pro 2.2 beta2. It was mailed to me by Jon Dee, the Encspot developer, after I contacted him regarding some display problems I had with the latest stable version. This was about half a year ago. In his mail he wrote that he is working on some bugfixes and ID3v2 support for the next stable release.

Good to hear that it's still in development.  I'll probably fork over the $20 for the pro version regardless, but do you know if there are plans to add support for analyzing aac & ogg files?

He didn't mention anything about aac/ogg support. But if you want to know for sure, I can PM you Jon's e-mail-address and you can ask him about it.
