LAME 3.97b1 dll gives 128Kbps CBR file

Hi. I don't want to cause a false alarm, but this is what happened. I tried to rip a movie to the XviD format using GordianKnot (the latest version available at doom9.org). I used the LAME 3.97b1 dll file in BeSweet with the '--preset standard' option. To my horror, I recieved a 128 Kbps CBR file as the output!! I tried this twice and it happened both times. Anyone else has this problem? Thanks.

Is it a true stereo or a mono soundtrack? --preset standard had 128 kbps as minimal bitrate (contrary to --vbr-new) and mono input files may be encoded at this minimal bitrate.
Did you also try with a different file and noticed the same issue?

WavPack -c4.5hx6 (44100Hz & 48000Hz) ≈ 390 kbps + correction file
WavPack -c4hx6 (96000Hz) ≈ 768 kbps + correction file
WavPack -h (SACD & DSD) ≈ 2400 kbps at 2.8224 MHz

It is a 5.1 channel AC3 soundtrack being downmixed to stereo using BeSweet. Hence, it definitely is not a mono track. The first time I tried this, it was with a different file which was stereo also. I didn't pay much attention to it the first time. When it happened again today (with a different source file), I decided to post here.

I don't know how to invoke LAME from the dll file other than using BeSweet. I usually use the .exe whenever possible. Please tell me how to do this and I will try this with some other files (once the movie is done encoding).

afaik there are two variants of the lame3.97b .dll file.. The one of them uses only presets from .ini file and another one can use presets from the external program...
hdd: flac -8\wavpack -h  iPod: lame3.98.2 -V2\NeroAAC -q 0.43

The content of the dll source code has not changed in any material way for nearly two years, ie., since before 3.96.1, so there must be some other factor at play here.

There have been a rare number of songs that displayed 128 cbr when encoded with preset standard with me on lame3.96. Try encoding something else to double check

by using BeLight... 


btw, I can't reproduce your problem with GordianKnot 0.35 + lame_enc.dll 3.97b1 here. So, maybe it's an issue with your command line ? Try to post the logfile...
