Slimserver: AAC or FLAC

Hi!

At the moment my music collection is encoded as 128kbps AAC using iTunes and stored in iTunes for the purpose of using on my iPods.

However I've ordered a Squeezbox 3 (www.slimdevices.com) to use on my quality hi fi separate system.  I find 128kbps AAC perfect for portable listening.  Will I notice the difference if I re-rip my collection as FLAC just for Squeezebox/Hi Fi listening?

Thanks,
Fairy

You might try doing an abx test on your stereo with FLAC & AAC files decoded and burned to a CD. I know the method won't be the same, CD instead of direct from the file transported to your receiver, but you can get an idea of whether or not you'll be able to tell the difference.

No one is going to be able to tell you if you hear the difference. It's possible you can, but it's possible you might not be able to either.

Your probably right.  I'm listening to a FLAC file on my PC and enjoying the placebo effect (the track is Sarasate, Zigeunerweisen).

I'll try this when less tired (and irritable).  If I go FLAC what's the easiest way to add album art to the directories as I rip?
