Problem with encoding APE to mp3!

I really get some trouble when I want to encode some of my APE to mp3.
it seems ok when i do the encoding, and the size of the mp3  files seems reasonable.
but when i play it with WMP ,the length of the music is obviously shotten! about only 1' of each mp3 file!
so,i was wondering if someone could help me with the problem?

WMP will not have the correct time/bitrate display for VBR files.

Is that because WMP doesn't read the Xing or LAME tag?

Does it properly display bitrate for Lame encoded files?

it is not the problem about vbr.
because the actual length of the music is wrong.
it ends in a random and enexpect place.

Sort of... It display 185 kbps for a file with an average of 207 kbps (reported by foobar2000, Winamp and EncSpot). At least it's not displaying 700 kbps or something like that. The time display is fine, however.

The VBR tag is added automatically, unless you specified "-t".
