best encoder settings for Sony CDX-R3300/F7700

These are auto-CD-MP3 receivers (new 2004 year models).
They have a new firmware, which understands ID3 upto v2.4, and the manual says "you may encounter problems playing a high-bitrate content such as 320 Kbps mp3"

Has anyone tested which files work and which are not, and the best lame settings for this line of Sony auto mp3-receivers?

I'm particularly intersted if -alt-preset-extreme works without quirks.

[edit] my target genre is heavy metal [/edit]

I have a Sony CDX-MP40 which plays APS -Y mp3s without problems; at least I haven't noticed any quirks. I use id3v1 though.

then the following question:

is lame 3.90.3 better at 320 CBR than Fraunhofer's Professional codec (also at 320 CBR)?
