can I "repair" mp3 files?

hi, this is my first post here (though i've been browsing this site for a few months now) so first of all i'd like to say hello and thanks to everybody for everything i learned here.

here is my problem: i downloaded some mp3 files from the net (via ftp) and winamp can't play them. i searched this site for a solution, but i couldn't find one (it seems that the suggested softwares were useless).
i wonder if there are any (new?) software to fix that.

thanks in advance...

Hummm... Maybe your MP3 are "cooked" (I.E: Downloaded in Text mode, not in binary mode)

Try running Uncook on one of them. (Be careful, because the program can cook a file if it's uncooked)

Roberto.
