AAC plugin for CEP

hi everyone,
Is the AAC plug-in (for CEP) based on FAAD2 ??
If not when will it be released ??
It appears FAAD1.5 by Ken is quite buggy....

Yes, the latest code for the Cooledit plugin is based on FAAD2. And it supports the MP4 file format too.

Oups ...
Big troubles !!!
After encoding (aac.flt) a wave file into AAC (MPEG-4 LTP 256 kbps),if I open it again w/ CEP,this software crashes...  and windows is slowing down.

This problem doen't appear w/ previous version of the plug-in

PS: aac.flt found in rarewares.

What's wrong ??

Hmm, the version on the Rarewares site seems a bit old. I'm not sure if it is any better with current versions.
If you have the possibility you should try to compile a newer version yourself. Otherwise Roberto will have to upload a newer version.

Aah I was getting mixed up, it's called faacplug which I guessed would mean it lets you save your files in CEP as aac with the FAAC encoder.

Anyway, I've got it, replaced my 80k faac.flt with the 1.4mb new version, and it crashes Cool Ed badly when I try loading an aac file!

The file info shows up with filesize being 1 - 3 GB, and the time being > 2 seconds.  The bitrate seems to show up correct though.  If I try loading an AAC file it sais at the bottom this file type is unsupported or can't be translated, then it goes all mangled up and locks my computer up totally :S

Haven't tried using it to load an mp4 file yet...

Thanks for the help by the way  I'm not trying to be stupid on purpouse!

The plugin seems buggy at the moment. I'll contact the original author about it.
Maybe you're using a version of CEP for which the plugin wasn't developed? I think it was developed for version 1.2.

Aaah, I thought you were the original author!

The bug appears with aac.flt latest released (today) and craches both CEP 1.2 & CEP 2.0,
Symptoms : wrong play time and crash...
too bad...???

PS: please is it possible to add dither or 32/24 bits decoding option ???
FAAD2 is able to do that in its line command version.
I Think i could be nice to decode AAC files in24/32b in CEP before mastering.

Do you know what's wrong with this thread?

I keep receiving email updates saying menno has replied... but I never see his replies.  I've had 3 or 4 now...  Just got one at 21:39 GMT ?

I'll reply so you get at least one real email

I received a bug fixed version today. I think Roberto will compile and upload it soon.
It works on my PC with CoolEdit 2. Except on MPEG-4 Version 2 files, but I'll fix that some time soon.

Nice one menno!

It loads AAC files properly in Cool Edit Pro 1.2, and if I use mp4creator60, it loads mp4 files too for the first time!!

However, being able to test this has given me some questions about mp4creator.

Who would I contact about that btw?  If I remember menno isn't working on it?

I will probably have to do some more testing...

I tried one song, and it gave an MP4 ArrayOverflow or something?  A 10mb aac turned into a 20mb mp4 that couldn't be played...

I tried another and found :

Filesize went down 30k (5mb file)..  bitrate went down (128.8 -> 126 reported in winamp)..  file length went up by about 0.3 seconds...

And I would of thought it left the audio data untouched?  I opened the AAC file, and the converted mp4 file in CEP, then invert mix pasted one over the other.... and found them not to be identical....

It's a pretty badly clipped song and I lowered the max amplitude to -0.5dB before encoding as suggested somewhere...  and have found the mp4 file differs throughout the whole song.  Single samples are at -32768 (max value) in the "difference between the two" file.  ???

I have loads of other questions about that program too..  but they were all sorta answered with a don't bother using it yet response

Sorry but the rarewares version of the Cool Edit plugin does not appear to be updated (they have an August 18th date and not an August 22nd date) and the links given by Menno in this thread all give a "You Are Not Authorized To View This Page" error message. Could you look into this rjamorim? Thanks

Well, dude, the links given in this thread are well more than an year old. :B

And yes, the latest build at http://rarewares.hydrogenaudio.org/aac.html is dated 08-18. I don't think there have been enough updates (if any at all) to justify another compile as of yet.

Sorry I saw the posts by Menno of August 22nd and then followed by you and didn't notice the year was '02 instead of '03. Thought I was reading a notice by menno and you that you had released a new version of the Cool Edit Plugion on August 22nd of this year...
