Play next

http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_play_next

Hi; I have came to this foobar component because I wanted something like iTunes had. Play next: after the song you are currently playing, or add it up next; play the selection after all the songs on the playlist had been played.

My question is; this feature is it already on foobar right? Is there something I am missing? I just used it, the feature not the component and it played the album I added well after the song I was hearing, then another album started.

Regards.

foobar2000 is primarily based on playlists. You typically select some tracks or albums from your media library and send them to a (new) playlist and begin playback.
If you for some reason wish to listen to another track (or more than one track, maybe even an album) while playing this playlist, you would use foobar2000's built-in queue function. No changes are made to the playlist.
Select the desired item(s), RightClick and 'Add to playback queue'. The item(s) will not be added to the playlist; when the now playing track from the playlist has finished, the queue takes over and its content is played. After that the playback of the playlist continues from where you left it.

  • When the last track in the queue has been played, the queue is empty.
  • When you close foobar2000, any existing queue content is deleted.
  • The queue is FIFO (First In First Out). You can add more items to the queue while playing from the queue, they will be appended to the bottom of the queue.
  • The queue has a maximum of 64 items.

Case's component Play Next (PN) is LIFO (Last In First Out).

  • PN is 'one tune' based. RightClick a track in the media library and 'Play Next', and the track will be inserted at top of the queue and play next.
  • You can insert more tracks, one by one, they'll always be put at the very top of the queue.
  • If the queue has reached the maximum of 64 items, PN will remove no. 64 and insert "its" track at top of the queue.

If you want to look at or edit the queue contents, here's a suggestion: Queue Contents Editor.

Hi.

Regular queue: the one you currently play.
Queue with numbers: the one it plays next to the aforementioned when you right click and "Add to the playback queue".

Sorry, I did not understand it quite well but playing with the queue I have seen that when you use "Add to playback queue" a number appears before the song title on my playlist and apparently when it finishes this queue with numbers the rest of the regular queue continues, When I add another song it appears on the end so if I have twelve songs added to this queue the next one will be the thirteen and then the regular one.

The PLAY NEXT do that stuff but adding the songs at the beginning instead of at the end, right? But only one by one according to what you have said.

Hi, tipar

The term "Regular queue" is new to me. Please explain. What you currently play has not necessarily anything to do with the queue.
In Reply #1 I tried in very few words to describe the difference between playlist and queue, as I see it. The queue is a method to temporarily disable playback of a playlist*).
Next I tried to describe the difference between foobar2000's built-in queueing function and case's new Play Next (PN) component, again as I see it.
I consider PN as an useful enhancement to foobar2000's built-in queue function, nothing more, nothing less. It's the same queue that's used.

Number? What number? The queue doesn't make any changes to any playlist.
Please consider the Queue Contents Editor (QCE) mentioned and linked to above. You don't need to integrate this component in your layout, it can be evoked from the View menu.
In the attached QCE screenshot I began with adding the album Embergép to (an empty) queue. Then I added the track The Joy of Starting to the queue, and finally I used PN to add the track Prayer to the top.

*) I do not want to engage in a new discussion about the difference between queue and playlist.
