Transcoding huge amount of files

Hi, this is my first post in hydrogenaudio. Despite the fact that I live in US, I am not American. Therefore, be patience with my English :-)
I have a very big collection of digital music, with the MP3, MPC and Vorbis formats.
Recently, I bought a Creative 10 GB Nomade. Since I have a great HD space, I like to trancode all my collection to one format with the same bitrate (Mp3 VBR ~ 120 or WmaPro). Is there any software that can does that automatically? If so, I would save a lot of time, since I have thousands of files. BTW, I’m not very much concern about the quality of the Mp3 player files.
Thanks in advance,

CB.

I would suggest using Speek's Multi frontend.  You can add any format you have the decoder for and can encode into almost anything you have the (command-line) encoder for.
I don't know if it can handle thousands of files at a time, but I have successfully added a few dozens of files on the frontend and it hasn't had a problem, so at worst you will have to do some batches.

EDIT: Plus, you can have your files automatically tagged either de novo or keeping the sources' tags. Great piece of software. Thanks Speek!

Hello,

you can also use our GermaniXEncoder. This tool can encode some formats to other in batch mode. The encoder use lame for en-/decoding mp3 - all tags will transfer to the new file. see www.germanixsoft.net. The encoder is freeware and understand MPC, MP+, MP3, MP2, Ogg Vorbis, WMA, Monkeys Audio some RAW and PCM/ADPCM formats and LPAC.

I have used Speek's Frontend with lame.exe, oggenc.exe and tag.exe to transcode about 2.000 mp3s to oggs.  It worked great. Including Tag in the process copied the id3 tag info into the ogg comment tags.  I got it started late at night and then went to bed; when I got home from work the next day, it was done.  Don't expect to sit there and watch it do the whole job.

When you transcode from mp3 to mp3, make the output go to a different directory from the souce file.

Disclaimer:  I transcoded for my own reasons and my own use; I do NOT share these transcoded files with others.  They are good enough for my purpose.

Try dBpowerAMP Music Converter - for the ideal setup install Sveta Portable Audio (comes with dMC), and File Selector Addon, then all you do is select the root folder of your audio >> Convert To >> Creative Jukebox  and the program will do everything! all formats mentioned are supported.
