Delayed playback when double-clicking an item in windows explorer.

Hi all,

I have been a foobar2k user for quite some time now (even posted in this forum before!) with no real issues.

However, i recently upgraded my computer and after a clean install of windows XP/fb2k i noticed something which may or may not had been there before but i was annoyed by it nevertheless:

When i double-click an audio or playlist file in windows explorer, playback in fb2k doesn't start until a couple of seconds later. Even with fb2k closed, when i double click a file, fb2k opens instantly but the song in the playlist doesn't change and playback doesn't start until 1-2 seconds after i double-click on it. This problem however doesn't happen when i send an item from foobar's library to the current playlist. In that case, playback is flawless and it starts at the same moment.

Now we may be talking seconds here but this delay in playback is more evident than ever when comparing it with the delay of other popular media players (WMP/WinAMP) which is non-existent!. I even installed fb2k with default settings to an old laptop of mine and this issue was prominent there too.

So when i play songs from within foobar there's no delay but when i double-click or press enter on them from windows explorer there is a delay of seconds. So my real question is two-fold:

  • Is this an issue that fb2k natively has? (I'm thinking yes but a confirmation that this happens to you too guys would put me at ease!)
  • Is there a workaround to this issue? It may have been there all those months that i was using fb2k but i just discovered it and i'm quite annoyed by it!

Thanks a lot in advance for any information/advice you may give me.
