- CD burning component (uses Nero libraries)

This is probably an obvious question Peter, but since the CD burning component relies on Nero libraries, does one need a retail version of Nero installed for this to work?

He answered this already.
He said that he knew that most of us have Nero installed, legally or not, so using Nero for his writing component seemed a perfectly reasonable choice for him.

Ahh... I missed his earlier post. Unfortunately, I do not have Nero installed (and I'm not going to install an unlicensed version, either), so this leaves me out in the cold. Unless, of course, the plugin (or another plugin) could be made to work with CDRDAO, CDRTools, or some other freeware burning component.

Well, seems Peter won't write it.
In the same post (it's on the foobar forum) he said that he wouldn't/couldn't use the freeware tools such as CDRDAO bacause of some GPL issues.

Why don't you go and procure yourself a version of Nero?

There are many CD writers available.  Why not use one of them.  EAC would work.  It is good; it is free.

1. You don't need to break the GPL to write a plugin that uses CDRDAO, you just have to use Foobar to write the TOC and WAVs and parse some command lines to CDRDAO, and It would not break the GPL (as in BAO), since you could get the user to download CDRDAO separately.

2. Because Nero is not a good (IMHO) burning app!

( I just needed to use that smilie!)

I find it kinda silly that you need to download Nero at 15mb(?) to use a 16kb plugin.  I'll stick to BAO as I like the whole 'one tool for one job' concept. It's why I like foobar2000 to start with.

Not the point... I already use EAC, and happen to prefer it. I was simply commenting that it would be nice, if a burning plugin exists for a freeware application, for the plugin to be usable without one also having to purchase a commercial application.
