CUI: suddenly cannot remove files from default playlist; option greyed

I use my default playlist as a holding playlist to either remove files that are duplicates, run replay gain etc.  I can't remove files that I just added to it.  The remove item is blanked actually not in black type.  What gives?

Maybe you [someone] have changed that playlist to an autoplaylist which would exhibit that behavior.

It starts with providing a reasonable about of information. Is it indeed an autoplaylist? What did you use to make it?

Context menu from playlist tab has a autoplaylist entry which is the query you used to make the playlist. Redo that query from where you started and select regular playlist instead of autoplaylist.

The playlist was blank.  I drug the folder from Windows Explorer to the playlist.  I'm using Columns UI and the playlists are listed there
