Hrm... m2v is (usually) a video-only MPEG2 stream.

Are you asking how to extract the audio from MPEG files?

Yes

The easiest to use (free) MPEG splitter I can think of is SCMPX

Once you have it loaded, click convert -> single file -> mpeg splitter.

And how did you take the m2v out of the SVCD files?

Or were the files you downloaded these .m2v videos?

An SVCD should have a mpeg file. For instance "pearl_harbor.mpg".

When you demux it you get a m2v file (video) and an ac3 file (audio).

It is an mp2, but it's named "mpg". I'm looking at one right now.

In a folder named "MPEG2", the file is named "AVSEQ01.MPG"

But you're right (as usual). When you demux it you get an m2v video file and an mp2 audio file.

Oleg:

Try this program MovieID. (It is really a very simple program to use, just make sure you read the instructions on how to use it in the readme file included in the archive.) This program should tell you what kind of a file you actually have, and whether there is an audio stream in there, or just a video stream.

I also have a music video file with the m2v file extension. I checked it, and it turned out to have an MPEG-1 layer 2 audio stream.

Realtime playback of MPEG audio stream with high quality sound.
- Decoding (MPx -> WAV)
- Encoding (WAV -> MPx)
- MPEG SPLIT (MPG -> MPA) (*Video CD is not supported.)
- High quality re-sampling (WAV -> WAV)

Video CD not supported this means i can't extract SVCD.

Well, that's an MP2 audiofile, I think VirtualDub should be able to extract that.

VirtualDub only supports VCD but not SVCD

TMPG should do, it has mpeg mux/demux tools.

Absolutely, use Tsunami. I have done this many times. Just go to "MPEG Tools" on the "File" menu, go to the "De-multiplex" tab, load up your file, and click"Run".

Bam, you'll have two extracted files - the video file: *.m2v, and the audio file: *.mp2.
