[TOS #6] New to the forum, a few questions about Foobar

Hi guys,

I've been using foobar for a couple of years ago and have it customised to a very basic level. It is pretty much perfect for me but there are a couple of things I'd like it to do that I'm not sure how to or even if they're possible. I realise that no one likes reposts and stupid questions so I've browsed the forum to try to find the answers I seek but have had no luck. Indeed I have often found it quite hard to understand some of the information in the threads I've read, given the myriad of configurations and components people use. So i've decided the best course of action is to post my foobar layout and explain my usual "workflow" and what I want to get out of the program and maybe someone could direct me to relevant threads or give me some assistance.

I use Columns UI and browse my library through an albums list panel (although I often also browse folders directly via a taskbar shortcut). This is what it looks like:

I generally don't work with playlists in that I don't create them for more than immediate use (i.e., a playback queue). What I'd usually do is find a tune I want to hear and double click it to start it playing or right click and add it to the playlist of tunes I already have playing (this would all be happening in the "Now Playing" playlist in the pic above). I will often have a Now Playing playlist of one track that I'm constantly changing as I select tunes on the fly.

But I would like to work more with playlists. What I'd like to be able to do is perform my standard music browsing/playback as described above while also creating playlists. But I have found I often forget to switch playlist tabs and lose everything I've been doing with an errant double click. So say I'm adding tunes the "Driving Mix" for example, but still want to be browsing and plaing music on the fly, am I able to configure foobar so that when I double click on a track in the album list view it is sent to the now playing list even if it is not on the top? This would leave Driving Mix unmolested and allow me to continue working on it without fear that I might accidentally erase the whole thing.

Does that make any sense?

Also, let's say I have created a playlist in foobar and want to export it, and all the tracks contained therein, to my mp3 player (Sansa Clip+). Is there a way to do that with foobar? If not, does anyone know of a lightweight program that will do this for me?

Sorry if this is a massive load of nonsense but I will certainly appreciate any assistance tendered.

One small point that may be of help. Edit>Undo will save you from losing everything.

I use right click> file operations>Copy to copy playlist to my clip. Set it up parameters once and use it with one click.

Can not help with anything more specific as I use the default user interface, which by the way should be more than adequate based on your screenshot.

Great, thanks.

So do you mean when you copy the playlist to the clip it shifts the mp3s as well as the playlist?

If I recall correctly, when I've opened the file operations window my Clip hasn't been visible...

There is no reason for your clip to not be visible with a direct selection via destination folder dialog as it is nothing other than a drive letter.

I just have foobar2000 copy the files. I do not include any sort of playlist as the clip has plenty of it's own playlist capabilities. In addition, I sometimes use a small program that used to be available the sansa forums - autoM3U - quite handy at dealing with playlist creation on music players.

Cool, I'll have a play around when I get home. Will try the default user interface also.

Keep in mind my experience is with the Clip. I am assuming the clip+ is similar enough in that it can be mounted as and treated as a simple usb [msc] device. If it really does not show via the destination dialog and it is indeed connected to your computer there should be a setting on the clip+ to choose msc vs mtp transfer mode. Change to msc [default is probably mtp] and it should show up

Good lord, what's going on here. I guess it's something to do with album artist...
