Real-time spectrum/EQ for recording input?

I do some cassette tape transfers and am aware about the importance of azimuth adjustment to get the most out of a cassette. I usually do this by ear and adjust until I get the most high frequency output, but I was thinking if there is a more accurate way to do this? Is there some software (Windows) that can show a real time spectral analysis of the recording input, and allow realtime EQ so I can hear the highs better when adjusting (instead of having to go through my hi-fi's EQ, which only has treble/bass controls)? I've tried some free EQ software but they don't work for my recording input as my Edirol UA-1EX doesn't have a software monitor function (like a "line-in" volume control in Windows) for the input or any software controllable input settings (only analogue level control and digital/analogue input switch). I know RMAA will do a live spectrum but not EQ, and it's a bit slow.

There's a switch on the interface for "ASIO Direct Monitor", but I'm not sure how to make use of this feature (I have ASIO drivers installed and use it for playback) or if it can be used to apply EQ to the monitor input. Any ideas?

Couple to mention:
Voxengo GlissEQ - http://www.voxengo.com/product/glisseq/
apulSoft apEQ - http://www.apulsoft.ch/

If you're looking a costfree solution then maybe :

- Voxengo SPAN - http://www.voxengo.com/product/SPAN/
- AiXcoustic Creations Electri-Q posihfopit Edition - http://www.aixcoustic.com/index.php/Electr...osihfopit/30/0/

Place the EQ before SPAN in chain (You can load those into a plug-in chainer as well - http://www.acondigital.com/us_Downloads.html)

Thanks for that, those VST plugins do what I want however I cannot find a way to apply them to the direct monitor - Acoustica can control the ASIO monitor (unlike Audacity) but will only let me use VST filters on something that has been already recorded. Like most programs it can only give me a peak meter of the input monitor.

Is there any other software I could try? Am I asking for the impossible?

VSTHost does the job, thanks!
