Updating tags would corrupt flac files

Hello everybody,

I'm new on the forum, cheers
I've been using foobar for about 10 years, I think, and I must say I really enjoy it!

I've just discovered a big problem with my flac files.

I've ripped a lot of CDs these last months and if original flac files are ok, some of them have been corrupted by tagging.
They are either truncated or totally insane (only 00 when analysing them with an hexa tool).

I've tagged a lot of files with two solutions:
1. editing the properties
2. using the masstagger with recognition of tags on using the filename scheme (Guess values from filename)

Now, I need to understand what's happening and how it is possible to truncate or simply destroy a flac file while changing its tags!...

I'd be very please to have an expertise on that topic.

Thank you,

Pat

It sounds like your drive is faulty, or maybe the USB port is.
There have had similar reports from someone who has been tagging his files over a shoddy network drive.

TxF (vista and up only) has been looked into for such operations but it has been determined that it will make operations too slow for regular use.

PatLogan71,

look in the Windows Event Viewer for error messages that apply to the drive or controller in question.

I had a similar situation a few weeks ago with one of my USB drives, playing files worked well but writing them (converting, tagging) sometimes failed or damaged the flac, mp3, wv files.

In my event viewer I found log entries like "controller error", with a new drive this errors have gone.

f****** usb port...

I am no technician, but as far as I know USB ports and drives have their own controllers.

So the error may be caused by the USB port or the drive.
