[TOS #14] From: Would this stereo setup sound decent...

First of all we need to know a few things before we can give any suggestions or advise.
1.  whats ur budget
2.  How big is your room
3.  what kind of music do you listen to
4.  what are your sources? (pc, cd, ipod, turntable, am/fm radio, xm radio...etc)
5.  listening habits(do you listen at rock concert levels or lower levels, do you want lots of booming bass or less but more accurate bass..etc)
6.  do you want to buy new or is second hand ok?

Once you know all those things it will be alot easier to start researching a system.  Your best bet is to go around to some hifi shops, a/v shows or club meetings and listen to some equipment.  The one most important peice of advise i can give you is to listen before you buy and dont just pick equipment because a magazine or website says they are good.  Everyones ears are differant!
Anyways, judging by the stuff you have picked im guessing ur budget is under $1000.  You can put together a prettyy nice system for $1k but it will have compromises.  Your most likely not gonna get bass down to 20hz or rock concert loudness for that kidna money.  but you can get a very enjoyable system.
Heres just a few ideas to get you started.

Heres a complete Cambridge Audio system for $700, since everything is from the same company it should have very good synergy.  It would be great if you have a smaller room.  But the speakers are small so you might want to add a sub if you listen to alot of rap or metal.'

Heres another idea NAD and PSB both make very good budget equipment and sound very good together.  i use these speakers and a NAD integrated in my bedroom system and they sound amazing

If you dont mind going second hand you will get alot more for your money.  Check out Audiogon.com

Good luck:)

1.  I actually wouldn't want to go too much over $600 with $700 being the absolute upper limit.
2.  I don't have precise dimensions, but the room is probably 4x6 yards or so with no windows if that makes a difference.
3.  I listen to a little bit of everything, but I like a fair amount of "classic rock" type stuff from the sixties and seventies with a healthy dose of prog.  Typically I've found that if my prog sounds good to me on something then just about everything sounds good to me on it.
4.  I currently listen almost exclusively to iPod and CDs with an occasional listen to a baseball game on AM radio and an FM college station that doesn't come in all that well most of the time.  The only thing I'm planning on adding to my arsenal at some point in the future would be either a Squeezebox or something akin to it so that I can drop the CDs from the rotation and listen to my lossless library instead.
5.  I love to crank it up when my wife isn't home, but I mostly listen at medium to lower levels.  I like enough bass to know darned well that I'm listening to Chris Squire, but not so much that it boomily overpowers everything else as if I were watching some THX certified action/sci-fi flick instead of listening to music.
6.  In theory I would LOVE to buy used.  In practice I am probably too lazy.
