Trouble installing and running LAME

I am trying to install and run LAME 3.97, but am having serious issues.  It downloads, but when I want to run it, it keeps asking me if I want RUN SAVE or CANCEL.  I keep clicking on RUN, but the same box keeps popping up, then it tells me that internet explorer has encountered a problem and it then closes.  My computer has VISTA.  Is that part of the problem?

I don't think lame runs by itself.  Run EAC which will let you configure lame.

LAME is a command-line encoder.  Running it by double-clicking it in explorer or clicking "Run" will run LAME in a command window long enough to print standard help and then exit.  If you use a GUI for it (foobar2000, EAC, etc.) simly put LAME in the appropriate place and configure it from within the GUI.  Otherwise, hold shift and right-click in the folder where you have placed lame.exe and type "lame.exe" at the prompt to display the ways in which you may use it from the command line.

So here is a summary:
  • You need to unpack the Lame.zip file and extract the Lame.exe file (that is all you need) to a known location
  • You cannot just run Lame.exe as it is a command line encoder.  This means that other programs use Lame.
  • Look at the hydrogenaudiowiki page (Google it) as everything is explained in great detail.
  • I suggest using either EAC, foobar2000, or dBpowerAMP (which does not require the Lame.exe file) for your CD ripping/file converting needs.  These programs will use Lame for their various processes involving encoding mp3 files.
  • Always remember that you can search the forums, hydrogenaudiowiki page, and Google to find all sorts of information regarding Lame and these various programs.
